Pick Up the Pieces
Andrew White, the proprietor of a country garage, is witness to a terrible crime.
He sees four of his mechanics - Pop Wells, Bert Wickery, Dave Chitty and Harry Forthright - run over a woman while they are on an unauthorized ride in a customer's car.
Thinking there had been no witnesses, the men fail to report the accident.
And White sees the perfect opportunity for blackmail.
The mechanics’ lives are ruined, they’re poor and miserable, stuck at White’s business with no hope of escape from his threats.
Becoming desperate, they plan to steal White's savings, drawing lots to decide who shall break in, and agreeing that the thief shall remain anonymous.
The next morning, White is found murdered, his savings stolen.
Who was it that decided to kill him instead of just steal his money?
Soon the four men are turning on the other, trying to figure out who drew the short straw and who killed White…
The money they planned to hide for their own benefit is gone.
Someone knows their secret and plans to profit by it…
Can they figure it out before the police do?
Can they make it through without their plans coming to light?
And will they all be friends by the end, when the killer is finally revealed?

Motives for Murder
The teachers at Redways Preparatory School for boys are used to petty squabbles and jealousies.
But when retired teacher John Connaught and his daughter are given sole possession of Abbey Lodge - forcing other staff out - things intensify.
When Connaught fails to return from his early morning swim in the river, the alarm is immediately raised.
And before long his body is found.
It soon becomes apparent that nearly everyone in the school will benefit from Connaught’s death.
Some inherit his money, others move into Abbey Lodge, and the headmaster of the school is rid of a bitter rival.
With everyone a suspect, how will the Inspector manage to untangle the threads of this mystery?
When the murderer strikes again it becomes clear time is of the essence…
It is clear that more than one person is lying.
Are they all in it together?
Or is the killer covering his tracks by exposing the Motives for Murder?
‘Motives for Murder’ was originally published as ‘The Ginger Horse’.

A Gun to Play With
Toby Vanne, an American airman on leave in Brighton, finds the dead body of a girl in a field near Lewes.
Before reporting the grisly find to police, Toby spots a piece of paper lying near the corpse and, assuming it to be litter, picks it up and puts it in his pocket.
The girl, soon identified as local girl Cathie Wilkes, has been shot in the back with the type of revolver that was used to murder a shopkeeper in nearby Forest Row.
Cathie is thought to have recently run off with petty criminal, Joseph Landor.
On the night of the Forest Row shooting, a mysterious couple pull up in a Daimler outside the cafe where Geoffrey Taylor works.
Taylor feels uneasy towards the late-night visitors and thinks their behaviour is suspicious.
The next day, an abandoned Daimler turns up in nearby Jevington and police find fingerprints on it belonging to Landor.
But Landor is nowhere to be found.

A Will to Murder
Nobody had a good word for Aunt Charlotte, not even her niece, Elizabeth.
When the rich, old lady arranged a trip to London, Elizabeth's friends thought it would be a joke to hoax people into believing that Aunt Charlotte had disappeared.
Initially planning to fake her murder, Elizabeth asks for a more tame reason for her disappearance, such as abduction, robbery or elopement.
She finally agrees to the plan, but wants to know as little as possible and does not want to be directly involved.
Fake telegrams were sent, telephone calls made, clues laid — and then Aunt Charlotte is found dead at the bottom of the garden well by the local policeman.
Inspector Pitt quickly discovers that several of the practical jokers might have had a motive for the crime, but it is a complicated business separating the false clues from the real ones...
The co-conspirators of the hoax plan begin to suspect each other as Pitt delves deeper into the mystery of Aunt Charlotte’s death.
Elizabeth is knocked unconscious by an anonymous attacker.
The group is becoming more and more fractured.
Soon after her attack, Elizabeth is still staying at Tower hotel and wakes one night screaming. A man came in through her window and tried to smother her to death.
Will Elizabeth survive long enough to discover who truly had ‘A Will to Murder’?
Or will she fall victim herself, just like poor Aunt Charlotte?
‘A Will to Murder’ is a thrilling mystery of twists and turns, leaving the reader gasping for more.
