Overview: David was born in post-war Nottingham, and educated at Nottingham High School. After obtaining a Law degree he became a career-long criminal law practitioner and academic, emigrating in 1989 to Australia, where he still lives.
Combining his two great loves of History and the English language he began writing historical novels as an escape from the realities of life in the criminal law, but did not begin to publish them until close to fulltime retirement, when digital publishing offered a viable alternative to literary agencies, print publishers and rejection slips.

People are dying in London’s East End. Is a serial killer on the loose?

Five people have been killed during the demolition stage of a slum clearance scheme in the East End of London.
And despite those in charge attempting to claim it was an accident, Sergeant Percy Enright is sure it was murder.
When his nephew and colleague, Constable Jack Enright tells him the niece of his neighbour has gone missing, Percy fears there is a connection.
And once more Esther must go undercover to get to the heart of the matter…

The whole of England is agog with the revelation that one of its favourite playwrights, Oscar Wilde has been accused of homosexuality and has brought a court action against his accuser in the hope of retrieving his good character.
When disturbing information is brought to light regarding the famous names that are likely to be dropped in open court and the dark crimes they may have committed, Detective Inspector Percy Enright and his nephew Detective Sergeant Jack Enright are ordered to suppress the scandal.
But when a leading peer goes missing, the caseload at Scotland Yard is stretched to the limit…
With two intermingled investigations and a fresh eye needed to spot the connections between them, Jack’s wife Esther, bored to distraction by domestic duties, finds herself involved once again…
Together they embark on another investigation into the seedier elements of late Victorian society. The Enrights are hopeful that this time they won’t be put in any personal danger.
But one can never be entirely certain…..

London, 1896
Detective Sergeant Jack Enright, recently transferred to the rural backwaters of Essex, is disgusted to find reports of the discovery of three infant corpses in as many months.
It soon becomes clear that his uncle, Percy, working in London’s Scotland Yard has also uncovered cases of babies being murdered.
These clearly are not one-off acts of desperation by impoverished mothers, but a widespread plot to take young lives.
Who is behind these baby killings? Can they be stopped?
And will Esther find herself, once more, at the heart of the investigation…?

Queen Victoria has ordered a Diamond Jubilee to celebrate her record-breaking sixty years on the throne.
But, ten years ago, during her opulent Golden Jubilee, only the skill and daring of the Metropolitan Police had prevented her assassination and they have every reason to fear that the 1897 celebrations will occasion a renewed attempt on her life.
When several disturbing incidents suggest that the Met is being corrupted, Detective Inspector Percy Enright and his Detective Sergeant nephew Jack are commissioned to investigate their source.
And before long, Jack’s wife Esther once more finds herself involved.
But this time it’s not only Jack and Esther who find themselves in danger. The lives of their four children are also under threat…

Jack Enright has barely settled, somewhat uncomfortably, into his new role as Inspector of the Tilbury Docks Police when he is obliged to investigate the apparent loss of cargoes on one particular incoming vessel.
At the same time, his uncle Percy is ordered by Special Branch to find out what’s happened to two schoolboys missing from their boarding school whose fathers are of strategic importance to Britain’s interests in South Africa.
After involving a protesting Esther one final time in what becomes a joint investigation, Jack and Percy find themselves at the mercy of forces they have provoked. This case could dramatically affect their futures as police officers…
