As he approached, the woman on the table looked up in adoration.
His expression was unreadable behind his thick square glasses. His features were distorted by the flickering flames so it was difficult to tell if his mouth formed a smile or a grimace.
Behind him, a woman with long, stringy air plucked the branding iron out of the fire.
Everyone stepped aside as she moved toward the center of the room.
“It won’t be long now,” he said as the woman approached.
“I’m ready, my master.”
