Ruff and Tumble Cozy Thriller series by Alice Holladay (#1-2)

Overview: Alice Holladay came into being in the middle of April 2019 as Shirley Spain's pen name under which she writes her "Ruff and Tumble Cozy Thriller" series. "In 2013 I published my first 'dark and chilling' novel under my real name, Shirley Spain. In the spring of 2019 when I felt inspired to jump genres and write clean cozies, I decided to write under a different name. Thus, Alice Holladay was born." Regardless of the author name she uses—Alice or Shirley—she’s an animal lover. All of her "children" have paws and she adopts her "kids" through animal shelters and rescue organizations. Although this author is a shoe fanatic and owns over 100 pairs, she prefers to go barefoot whenever possible. She even mowes the lawn in her bare feet!

While on their morning walk around the lake, Ben discovers a severed hand. Curiosity getting the best of Louise, she seeks to find the rest of the body and ends up crossing paths with the masked killer.
Could the killer be a member of the Guns, Poisons, and Daggers group of mystery writers who booked cabins for the upcoming weekend … perhaps a writer taking novel research a bit too far? Will Louise convince police she knows the murderer’s identity before she becomes the next body in the name of the killer’s twisted novel research?

A dead body. Three newly constructed coffins hidden in the Tumble Lake woods. A killer on the loose. A covert government operation in the works. Romance blossoming. And someone knows who murdered Louise’s husband! Leave it to Ben’s keen sense for sniffing out trouble to unwittingly hurl Louise into the middle of one doozy of a mess.
When Rachel offers to cover the rest of Louise’s morning shift at the trading post, Louise plans to use the time to prep her rental cabins for the weekend guests.
But when Louise and Ben reach the lakeside cabins, Ben is drawn to something floating in the middle of the lake. Of course, Louise investigates and, of course, her curiosity once again lands her in trouble. Life and death trouble!
Kidnapped and bound, Louise bets her life on Ben’s ability to make it back to the trading post and summons help. Will Ben succeed? Or will Louise end up filling one of the coffins?
