1. Main Street - The signs were there.
She read them in the rosehips in the bottom of a teacup, and in the steam rising from a nettle infusion. Edie Pepperidge knew the day would come when Mr. Newcombe strolled into her herbal dispensary on Main Street, carrying a large silver envelope. She knew that once she opened this envelope her life would never be the same again.
Three Found Hanging!
was the headline in the Wickeden Gazette and the first assignment for newly enlisted Inquisitor, Edie Pepperidge. But who is capable of killing witches and warlocks without fire, by turning their blood into tar?
2. The Fourth Sister - She will rise again!...were the words scratched into the stone walls of the Museum of Magicae.
A mysterious motif found at the crime scenes of the Hanging Six beckons the Inquisitor, Edie Pepperidge, to dig deeper into its meaning. It is similar to the symbol of the witching world that represents the three sister witches, legends in Wickeden. However, there is an added piece, perhaps symbolic of a fourth sister, one kept hidden, until now.
Meanwhile, Edie is recruited to find young constable, Tommy Alba. The last time Edie spoke to him he was acting peculiarly, all the signs pointing to a body snatcher who was using Tommy's body as a disguise. But the warlock in question, who was the bearer of dark magic, has since crumbled into dust. So where is the real Tommy now?
3. The Death Of A Mundus - The death toll continues to rise in Wickeden, creating ripples of unease.
Even though the cause of these deaths have an eerie similarity to dark magic recipes written long ago, the witching world government continues to deny their existence.
Mundus found Dead!
The Inquisitor, Edie Pepperidge, investigates the death of a mundus found bundled up in a wooden chest with a large tooth in his grasp.
The tooth is believed to have come from an extinct beast that roamed the witching world long ago. It was killed for its venom which could send a witch or warlock into a black sleep for 100 days. Yet there have been no sightings of these beasts for hundreds of years, not even the Museum of Magicae has a dead sample on display. So where did this mundus find the tooth and what was he going to do with it?
4. The Alchemist's Poison - Elusive alchemist, Drosera, has disappeared.
He is renowned throughout the witching world for his talent at finding solutions and reversals to difficult spells and potions. Yet those who seek him out to create formulae to heal the sick have never met him. No one knows what he looks like, apart from the witch who works alongside him in the mortuary, Cecelia Wolfsbane.
Edie Pepperidge is brought in by mortician and medical examiner, Cecelia, to investigate. But Cecelia wants the investigation to be kept quiet from the constabulary and the press, in particular lead reporter for the Wickeden Gazette, Jed Chervil, who Edie is romantically involved with. The only clues Edie has to go on is a ring left on the orange spines of Drosera's pet bearded dragon, Pikog, and the fact Drosera's laboratory was completely ransacked as if someone was searching for something.
As time goes on, Edie suspects Cecelia is hiding important information from her. Information that may be the missing piece to the puzzle as to Drosera's whereabouts.
5. The September Warlock - This time it gets personal.
Inquisitor Edie Pepperidge receives a gift delivered anonymously of a talisman in the form of a freaky jack-in-the-box with pictures of her dead parents' faces on it.
The macabre gift takes her on a journey to discover the truth of the night her parents died in a house fire. Along the way, she meets a warlock called September who claims to be good friends with her father. But there is a dark side to September, a known thief and liar from the harsh northern lands of the witching world, and Edie wonders if his objective is something more sinister.
