New England Crime Chowder (1992) Anthology by Cynthia Manson, Charles Ardai (ed. Sun77)
Requirements: ePUB reader, 0.64Mb
Overview: There are two images of New England that people carry with them.
There is the New England of picture-postcard villages, houses with gabled roofs and churches with tall steeples, and tightly knit, intensely private communities. This is a New England of history, tradition, and upright morality.
Then there is the New England of Lizzie Borden and the Salem witch trials, cold nights during long winters, brisk winds carrying whispered secrets, and dark deeds done behind closed doors. Which New England one sees depends on the light in which one looks at it. . .or the darkness.
Neither image is false. New England is both an inviting and a forbidding place, and it is this combination that has proven irresistible to mystery writers. Crime in New England can seem a strange and violent intruder, disrupting lives that are otherwise notoriously placid; yet crime can also seem strangely at home here, lodging deep in stubborn hearts and exploding within closed ranks. The stories in this collection show both sides.
