1. A Rant of Ravens
In an attempt to escape hellish matrimony, Rachel Stanhope sojourns to her Aunt Miriam's ranch in Colorado in search of some peace and comfort. As a favor to her aunt, a bird enthusiast, Rachel agrees to host meetings of the local birdwatching society. On her first expedition, however, instead of finding a LeConte's sparrow, she makes a much more disturbing discovery: a dead body. Identified as a reporter for Birds of a Feather magazine, this man was trying to dig up troubling information on Miriam's deceased husband and a bird trafficking scheme...and now sweet Aunt Miriam is the prime suspect in this fowl play.
2. Death of a Songbird
In desperate need of respite, Lark Drummond accompanies her friend, Rachel Stanhope, on a birding expedition. But their relaxing afternoon takes a gruesome turn when Lark witnesses her business partner's malevolent murder through her spotting scope. With the help of their birdwatching club, she sets out to solve the tortuously complex mystery. However, as more clues surface - and disappear - it soon becomes apparent that this case is much more menacing and dangerous than they'd originally bargained for.
3. A Nest in the Ashes
As a National Park Service ranger, Eric Linenger's job isn't always easy. Asked to oversee a "prescribed burn" of 1,000 acres in Rocky Mountain National Park, Eric prepares to contain the fire to the necessary acreage and do his best to protect the local birds' habitats. Once the fire is ablaze, the delinquent flames spread wildly to areas unintended for burning, and Eric's boss, Wayne Devlin, is found dead near the fire's origin. Eric takes it upon himself to investigate and uncovers that many people, including his friends, had reasons for ensuring this fire raged out of control.
4. Death Takes a Gander
Bad luck seems to follow U.S. Fish and Wildlife Special Agent, Angela Dimato. Her partner is dead and all evidence points to a mere accident as the cause. And when she is assigned to oversee a local fishing tournament, she discovers two hundred dead Canada Geese. Following her famed intuition, Angela investigates - with the help of an eccentric group of birdwatchers. Startlingly, she discovers that her partner's death may be connected, and may not have been so freakishly accidental after all.
5. Sacrifice of Buntings
Rachel Wilder's world takes a whirlwind turn when renowned bird researcher Guy Saxby falls in love with her friend, Dorothy MacBean. Even more shocking is when Guy's protégé is mysteriously murdered and Guy is the chief suspect. As Rachel and Dorothy work hard to clear his name, Rachel discovers the victim's innovative exposé on the Painted Bunting, upstaging his own mentor's research. Just how far would someone go to avoid this?
