Casey Shaw has had enough of the crime and congestion in West Palm Beach and decides to leave his native Florida. When he spots a curious online auction listing for a crumbling marina and defunct inn on the Eastern Shore of Virginia (ESVA), he decides it might be a great investment as well as the perfect ticket out for both him and his longtime friend, Michael Murphy. But the biggest hurdle to the deal is that it comes with a drug smuggler who will stop at nothing to stay in the marina, even murder. Can Casey stay alive long enough to close on this deal? And what about that other deal he wants to close? He's fallen for an ESVA native named Sally...

After an unforeseen breakup, Casey takes a trio of friends on a consolation trip to Ocracoke Island on North Carolina's Outer Banks. Once owned by a former crewman of Blackbeard, the island yields what might be a clue to one of the most sought-after treasures in history. While seeking help from a friend on the island, Casey accidentally draws the attention of a Russian mobster who wants that clue... and Dawn along with it! But a chance meeting with someone who becomes a new friend might save their skins as they race back to Bayside to prepare a special "reception" for the arrival of the Russians.

Sometimes people aren't who you think they are, and others can never change. When Sally reveals a secret that has been torturing her for years, that she was not just the wife but a victim of her ex-husband, she begs Casey to forget about what happened and leave it in her past. But that's not how Casey's wired. He and Rikki secretly team up to ensure she won't ever have to worry about it again. Along the way, they discover there's more to things than Sally told them, and even she doesn't know the whole story.
Casey didn't know Sally as well as he thought, and he figured out that she planned to betray him on a trip with Dawn. The pair are riding with Rikki and Cindy, taking a few days to bring Rikki's new Hatteras yacht from North Carolina up to Mallard Cove. As Casey faces the possibility of life alone again, he decides he needs to go where he can think best, out all alone on the water. But like the old saying goes: "Be careful what you wish for; you just might get it."
And it turns out that Sally isn't the only one who's been hiding big secrets...

When Casey and Dawn pick up their new floating home, they intended on making the trip a mini-vacation, picking up ideas for their Bayside Resort along the way. But they didn't plan on bumping into the crew of a boat that's known up and down the coast for cheating in high-dollar fishing tournaments. Their skirmish in Hilton Head won't be the last time they'll cross paths, and many lives will end up being changed forever because of it.
