7. Blame it on Paris
Paris, Second Chances, Cherry Blossoms, Americans Acting Badly-- Did I Mention Paris?
When Francie Bennett, 4th in the line of lawyer/sisters, comes under serious allegations of wrongdoing at her law firm, she is mortified to learn she must take a leave of absence. Just a formality, they say, but she is sure this is the end of her reputation and her law career. Will she sit around her apartment and eat cheese, drink wine, and binge Netflix for weeks while hoping it gets worked out?
Zut Alors! Non! She is off to Paris on assignment by the mother of a student jailed for serious drug crimes in France. She stays with her sister Merle and her boyfriend, the debonair policier Pascal, in the Marais district while trying to navigate the murky waters of the French criminal system. Is the student an actual European drug kingpin? Or has he been framed by someone? He looks guilty as hell, but first impressions can be confusing, especially inside one of France's worst medieval prisons.
But wait, a distraction from crime. A law school boyfriend that the flighty Francie kicked to the curb years before has surfaced. Instead of the boring lad she flicked away, Dylan Hardy is now sophisticated and suave-- and speaks perfect French from working in an international law firm. And he's single again, Merle discovers, eager to find her sister a real boyfriend after many rejects over the years.
It's Springtime In Paris or would be if the rain would ever stop. In between visiting the student in prison, gumshoeing about his University, and witnessing drug stings gone wrong, Francie longs to find blooming cherry trees that make Paris the magical place she imagines it is. Will Dylan's sudden re-appearance in her life be a good thing, or a repeat of her many romantic failures? Will she figure out what is going on with the drug dealer/student? Will she ever find her pink trees of legend?
9. Dead Flat #1: Bottle of Lies
At long last French policeman, Pascal d'Onscon, a beloved character in the Bennett Sisters Mysteries, has his own adventure in wine and France.
Pascal is ready for a long break with his live-in love, Merle Bennett, at their cottage in the Dordogne. But a favor is called in from his boss and off he goes to Champagne, to investigate a fraudulent labelling of wine at a swanky domaine. Thus starts Pascal's first adventure in the Bennett Sisters Mystery series, as a wine fraud cop working with the Police Nationale.
10. Dead Flat #2: Outside the Bubble
Part Two of the trilogy into policeman Pascal d'Onscon's adventures in France. Merle Bennett met Pascal in 'Blackbird Fly.' He is a wine fraud investigator with the Police Nationale.
First read number one in the trilogy: 'Bottle of Lies,' where Pascal is sent to Champagne to investigate a sham label on a bottle of the iconic bubbly. While in the 'Grand Est' -- the eastern part of Franc e-- he must also rescue his older sister, Suzette, from an uncomfortable personal situation, taking him with her when he goes home. Now, in this second part, 'Outside the Bubble' brings Pascal back to Merle Bennett in the Dordogne. But whether he can stay is another kettle of "poisson."
11. Dead Flat #3: Uncorked
The final part of the trilogy, DEAD FLAT, about the adventures of French policeman, Pascal d'Onscon, part of the Bennett Sisters Mysteries. The first two parts: 'Bottle of Lies' and 'Outside the Bubble' are available now.
In the finale Pascal has dual mysteries to solve, one personal, one professional, as he must figure out his future at the Police Nationale. A murder in Champagne of a well-connected vintner of expensive bubbly combines with his family tangles to provide a challenging time for Pascal. Will he take the promotion in Paris and leave the Dordogne-- and Merle-- behind? Who killed the well-liked wealthy maker of fine champagne? And what is he going to do with his older sister?
16. Birds of a Feather#3: Fly the Nest
On a wintry Welsh night a woman dies alone after an angry confrontation. Who killed her, or did she die of natural causes? Was a bad oyster to blame? Was it her alcohol consumption? Did she merely get lost in the hedges and expire of hypothermia? The Bennett Sisters and their cadre of boyfriends, relatives, and actual policemen join hands to solve the mystery. Deep in the Welsh countryside, answers will be revealed.
