3. The Feline Caper: Verna Timms is in trouble. A lover of cats, she might have a rather generous amount of felines roaming her property. But they’re well-taken care of and she’s never had a problem with the neighbors about them before. Now, suddenly, her cats are disappearing and she’s desperate for help. The police aren’t interested though, and so Dr. Jessica Stern asks Peter for help, knowing he’s an ex-agent and maybe he can unravel the mystery. Only Verna is fast becoming more and more terrified as her precious kitties go missing. When Verna is injured, Peter has to ask: Just how valuable is Verna’s property, and who stands to inherit? The whole thing makes him wonder if there’s something more to this kitty caper. Something doesn’t quite sit right about the whole affair, but the only ones who know the truth are a dozen forlorn felines, and they aren’t talking.

4. The Deadly Chili: Peter discovers his dad’s old chili recipe in time for the great chili cookoff. He doesn’t expect to compete against his old pal Marconi, who seems to have adapted to life in the country very quickly. Too quickly. When one of the other contestants for the chili cookoff is murdered, Peter is left wondering just how far the mafia don would go to win. Or is someone else out for the grand prize? Who doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty to get what they want?

5. Best Man Down: Life in the country was supposed to be quiet, but so far, it’s been anything but. Thinking of taking some time off from his time off, Peter agrees to fly Dr. Jessica Stern home for her youngest brother’s wedding in Still Lake. It’s supposed to be a quiet affair and the perfect opportunity to get in some fishing. His first morning in Still Lake, though, reveals some tensions in the wedding party. When the best man is nearly drowned in the lake the morning of the wedding, it looks like the whole weekend is destined for disaster unless Peter can unravel the case quickly. The problem? It seems someone is ready to kill to keep a certain secret, and the best man doesn’t have any idea just what that secret is.
