1. A Dickens of a Crime
Meg Miller discovers a dead body in Darrow House just a few hours before the annual homes tour. It could be someone she knows. Of course, she's a suspect. She's the only other person in the house. But, why would a retired librarian, community volunteer, and widow strangle a prominent socialite?
Detective Penny Crawford intends to get to the bottom of the crime, even if she has to interview Meg several times. Meg doesn't mind. She's willing to do surveillance, bake a batch of cranberry scones, or hide in a closet to help solve the murder. However, there's a bigger menace to the community, and Meg suspects it's centered in the mega-church at the edge of town. Will she be jailed as the murderer, hailed as the hero, or captured by the evil members of an organized crime ring?
2. Pelican Beach Murder
Jealousies and a body wash ashore during a summer retreat on the beach. Meg and Tom Richards negotiate a house trade for the summer. She will get a beach cottage on Galveston Island facing the Gulf of Mexico, and Tom will house sit for her while he wraps up the Hillard case from A Dickens of a Crime. What begins as a relaxing get away, becomes more complicated as Meg meets a family of locals with a troubled past. Her closest temporary neighbor, Echo Charles is quirky and mysterious and, Meg decides, irritating.
Although Meg enjoys a visit from her best friend, Jean, and their outings on the island, she is distracted by her thoughts about her own mother's past, a history Meg knows nothing about. As she anticipates the birth of her first grandchild, she mourns the absence of her own maternal grandmother. She wants to make memories for Dorie's and Michael's child, but she realizes she's missed half of her own heritage and will have nothing to pass on from her mother's side of the family.
The relationships she discovers during her beach stay remind her of the dysfunction and exploitation of the Hillard twins in her own hometown. The personalities and their consequences strike a familiar chord for Meg and she's alert to every nuance in her conversations with the locals. It will be her ability to form relationships and follow her intuition that will help Meg flesh out the murderer, and again, it will disappoint her to know the consequences of neglected relationships.
3. Mystery on Inheritance Ranch
Meg Miller is notified of an inheritance. It will rock her world, a world she was perfectly happy to inhabit. The deceased is Meg's maternal uncle, Neal Calihan, a man Meg never knew existed. She hadn't met any of her mother's family. As she will learn, her mother left home when she was seventeen and never returned.
Meg's brother encourages her to visit the property and learn about the family they'd never met. Her best friends, Jean and Tom agree to accompany her on a road trip. The history is rich, the scenery captivating, the caretakers are charming, but there's a mystery.
If Meg investigates she could expose a family secret. But the county sheriff is intent on removing evidence and has a hidden agenda. Does she sell the ranch and enjoy the profits, or will Meg be driven by her sense of justice?
4. Blue Feather Mystery
After celebrating Christmas at Inheritance Ranch, Meg Miller returns to her cottage with renewed motivation to embrace her intuitions. Her abilities will come in handy to reunite her with her brother and rekindle a friendship. After she settles her plans for Inheritance Ranch, meets with a crusty old codger, and celebrates the New Year, Meg is ready to face the future with fresh plans,
As always, with Meg, there are complications. A new courtyard project uncovers a bone, reminding Meg's neighbor that a strange family once inhabited Meg's cottage. Is it human? She will turn it over to Detective Crawford, but in the meantime, she has a robbery to solve, an old friend to nurture, two businesses to consider, and a birthday party to plan. She will come full circle and face new facts from the original murder mystery she helped solve in A Dickens of a Crime. Tom Richards will be there along with Detective Crawford, Jean, Dorie, Petra, LaRue and a cast of new characters equally as vibrant and lovable.
Following Meg's inheritance, her life will change, but even she couldn't predict the growth in her family and relationships, or the mysteries she will confront. She embraces all of it with a newfound resolve that enhances everything she touches.
5. Den of Uncles
THE MYSTERIES CONTINUE as Meg Miller's circle of friends and family grows as she discovers ways to invest her generous inheritance. The excavation of her new courtyard has revealed a skeleton, and there's an ominous link to her first experience with discovering a dead body.
Tom and Detective Penny Crawford are still on the case, but will their support be enough if Meg's intuition gets her in over her head? Visions take her further than she's ever been before, and the new sensations inspire her to call on a stranger. Her old friends are still there, but her best friend, Jean, hits a milestone, causing Meg worry.
Old and new mysteries intertwine, causing Meg's head to spin. However, Petra, her connection to her legacy, has news and plans for a celebration of life at the historic family cemetery. There promises to be mariposas, fresh seafood, a reunion of souls, and the gathering of uncles, but will an unexpected disruption allow Meg to attend?
Meg's biggest adventure so far causes her physical and emotional stress, but she has plenty of support to deal with both. The experience leaves some relationships hanging and others solidified. Long ago, Meg had a vision of a wedding in her courtyard. Who will that be? What will become of Ted and Mary Maude? Will Ginny Gibson slink quietly into the sunset or raise her blond head again? The story may have to continue...
6. Downtown Murder
In the final novel of the Meg Miller Cozy Mystery Series, Meg has accepted some changes and welcomed others. Her circle of friends continues to grow and expand her experiences. However, along with positive changes, there are still those who resent her prosperity and the efforts she puts forth to improve her community. Another dead body turns up in the little town. Meg doesn’t discover the corpse, but it’s tied to her in more ways than one. While her friend Tom and Detective Penny Crawford continue to investigate the organization behind the local megachurch, Meg is connecting dots from clues in her garden.
Betts, Meg’s mentor, will help her learn to be a student again, taking in new information and making sense of signs from spirit guides. She tackles chores she anticipated would cause her pain and embraces positive attention she never sought. Meg comes full circle with her family and friends and although she will relax into retirement, assisting where she can, the main characters in the future, will be those she’s inspired along the way, Berti, Ross, Derrick, Tom … and maybe a new character or two.
Meg comes to the slow realization that there’s something missing from her life. When others point out she could widen her horizons, she waves them off, but then again, she doesn’t ignore them completely. Although this is the last book in this series, Meg’s collection of friends leave tons of possibilities for a future series and chances for her to pop in when needed.
