1.The Road to Eden is Overgrown
Nicks, former soldier, ex police specialist firearms officer and high functioning ‘Aspie’, has a natural ability to hit whatever he’s aiming at. One dark, cold night, grieving for his late wife, the love he couldn’t save, he continues his attempts to drink himself to death when he’s approached by a mysterious stranger with an unusual job offer. Assassin.
Meanwhile, DCI Thurstan Baddeley, takes over his new desk at the local Police Force’s Major Investigations Team.
Naturally, he’s expecting to deal with a few ‘odd’ murders, it’s what they specialize in, but what he didn’t expect was the arrival of an assassin, and certainly not one who would hang around so long.
He soon realizes this is no ordinary ‘hitman’, organized crime he could happily deal with but there’s something about this one that makes him suspect bigger forces at play. Afraid of interference from Special Branch, he plays it close to his chest, concealing relevant facts from those above him.
As the investigation progresses, Baddeley learns that he and Nicks have both experienced deep personal loss; Nicks his wife and Baddeley his parents. Both have been members of the Army’s Special Investigation Branch.
With nothing more than an evidentially unusable blurry close up, an odd record of cash withdrawals, personal history and a gut feeling, the DCI sets out to find and arrest his quarry.
2.Ask The River
With death taking a break, DCI Thurstan Baddeley, with nothing to do and too much time to do it in, agrees to delve into a 'something or nothing' job for one of his team. What seemed like a good idea at the time is gradually shoved on the back burner as 'normality' returns to the streets of Liverpool and the jobs start to stack up but it's not long before Thurstan suspects he has another problem.
3.No Room For The Innocent added
The last of the Leveller Trilogy, the MIT’s DCI Thurstan Baddeley reluctantly recognizes the return of an old adversary but as if that wasn’t enough, there's a complication to their equation, an encrypted clue, a puzzle that leads to personal and professional dilemmas for them both.
