Unstereotypicals: The Reflection series by C.F. Edwards (#1-2)

Overview: C. F. Edwards, the sole author of the Unstereotypicals Series, and co-author of the Volonian series. He graduated with a BA in Communication Studies and Business Administration and moved to Los Angeles with dreams of being in front of the camera, but life took him on a different path as it often does, and while on that path he found a love for storytelling. He decided he would write books with characters whose races were ambiguous, because It was frustrating seeing books and movies made and not seeing many people who looked like him and others races in lead roles.

1. Mora
Being a teenager is a living nightmare...
Mora isn’t your average sixteen year old girl. Sure, she has the same teen angst and high school dreams as any kid her age. She wishes her coarse hair was straighter, her mocha skin was lighter, and that boys would notice her more. But no matter how hard she tries to fit in, Mora doesn’t stand out in the way she desires at her posh private school.
Strange events seem to follow Mora wherever she goes. She suffers terrible nightmares, that seem so real they cause panic attacks. Her phone picks up text messages that vanish when she tries to show them to others. And worst of all, she’s begun seeing an apparition in her bathroom mirror... a terrifying ghost who resembles her own distorted reflection...
But when Mora’s sinister reflection begins stirring up trouble with her family, the terrified teen must come to grips with her greatest fears. And unless she can learn to accept herself as she is, she may find herself trapped in a nightmare she can’t wake up from.
2. Mora’s Acceptance
Her greatest enemy is her own dark reflection…. Sixteen-year-old Mora awakes to find herself trapped in a dark supernatural prison known as, The Threshold. In order for her to return home she must first complete three challenges. With each hurdle harder than the last, if Mora fails just one, she could face her doom in this bleak and hopeless realm. And even if she succeeds... she must still battle against other lost souls to compete for a spot at returning home to her family. As Mora struggles to escape her strange prison, her family launches a panicked search to find her. Pouring over missing child reports and internet articles, her distraught parents and older sister, Rain, begin to fear the worst. But little do they know, dark forces are closing in around them. And Mora is not the only victim suffering at the hands of a blood-thirsty dictator.
