Jory by Milton Ralph Bass (1972)
Requirements: .ePUB, .MOBI/.AZW reader, 1 Mb
Overview: Jory was fifteen when he got his first gun and learned how to use it. For a lot of tough hombres there wasn't a place in the West where they could run or hide from this avenger.
I turned and walked over to the side of the saloon where there was a long alley stretching between the two buildings. I walked down in that alley a way and turned. Jack had followed me a bit, but had stopped quite a few paces away.
“Where you going?” he wanted to know. "Why you going way down there?"
"I want a favour, Mr. Jack," I told him. "I want you should give me back Jocko's guns. Those were his favourites and it don't seem right you should kill him for his guns."
“I didn't kill him for his guns," he said. "It was an accident — but a bet's a bet, even when it's an accident."
"It's not right, Mr. Jack,” I said, “I want those guns."
“Then come take them," he said, and he was making his move.
I watched him fall backwards into the dirt, and it was afterwards that I remembered the noise and the feel of the gun bucking in my hand.
