I have lots of audio books, the problem is that they are nearly all in multiple files. My Ipod doesnt like audiobooks in multiple files, it likes 1 big file.

So my question is, is there any good mp3 mergers out there for free that work without losing bits. I have tried a couple and they seem to choip the first 2 mins off every file which is a royal pain.

Any help/advice/suggestions most welcome.

thanks

I am NOT a techno-geek, but here goes

I use an ipod to listen to audiobooks too, but don't usually have your problem.
I have all the files of a particular audiobook in one folder (if you download using torrent it will create a folder, if you download from here you will get 2 or 3 rars which you can decompress into a folder)
I transfer the FOLDER, not the single files, to itunes and then synchronise with my ipod.

There are a few audiobooks with files that are not in order for some reason (I'm listening to the Molly Murphy mysteries by Rhys Bowen right now, and I have this problem with them) but 99% are correct.

BTW have you checked that your ipod's 'random' button is not on? Ipods often see audiobooks as music files and so give the 'random song' option

I had the same problem when I was into my audiobooks years ago, I googled for a m4a converter and found a good one, no name just m4a converter, you just opened it and transferred the mp3 files to the converter, it did have one little quirk which was the last file was always put in first place but it did have the option to click on the file and move it to last place, I just had to remember to do it especially if the audiobook had a folder for each chapter and you could label the new file as book and author or what ever you wanted, another thing I don't think an m4a file could be over 500mb so if it was I had to make two files, part 1 and part 2 but when it did convert it was usually a smaller size file and it is an m4a file it was automatically tagged as an audiobook in iTunes, if you don't want to convert, you've got to make sure they are tagged right and tagged as audiobook not music in iTunes.

Inability to start a new book because you're still living in the last book's world
