I've had a nook simple touch for a couple of years now and am pretty happy with it, my only gripe is that if I want to use it as a portable library it stuggles with that many(2000) files. Has anyone come up with a solution to this? like a custom rom?

Try downloading Calibre, a free online tool if you have a computer. It recognizes your nook and what books are there and allows you to manipulate books you get from other sources as well

Let me ad this for consideration: Do you have an SD card added to your Simple Touch? I have 3 Nooks: 1st edition, 1st simple touch [not lighted], and a large HD tablet. My preference is to read on the 1st edition, but it is over 5 years old, and the battery is losing its ability to stay charged. I loaded most of my books onto the SD card [from Calibre], and keep everything up-to-date that way. I would suggest that an SD card might help with the load that you want to have installed in your Simple Touch.
