I'm trying to fix some and share. I'm trying to add a cover, as when I sync it with my Nook it comes with the Authors name/Book Title but not the cover itself.

Thoughts?

Atlantis Word Processor is a pretty good one to use to add images to .epubs.

I think that you can also do that with Calibre.

Add book to Calibre, go to Edit metadata, add the cover you want, then go to Convert book and convert again to ePub, presto epub book with cover.

This seems to work with other formats too. I do this when I convert from epub to mobi. I have even been able to 'convert' mobi files with no cover this way.

I.e., I take a mobi file with no cover, add it to Calibre, go to 'edit metadata', add the cover, and then 'convert' it to mobi again. and voila! I now have a mobi file with a cover.

An additional conversion method. Another free program along side the mobipocket reader is the mobipocket creator. This program can convert HTML, MS Word, or plain old text files to PRC files (which the reader can read, but I usually convert them again in Calibre to mobi files). The option to add a cover is there with this program too

when i change from ePub to mobi. via Calibre, i usually go to structure detection and click on ' remove first image' and 'insert matadata at start of book'. or vice-versa. i havnt had any problems with covers using that.

i do a meta data search before converting. also if you use 'Fantastic fiction'. you can usually find the book / author and copy and paste the book cover into 'calibre'

I never convert straight to PDF from Calibre though. I convert to RFT. then after formatting in MS word, I convert to PDF

hope this is of some help

You're a genius!!! I put loads of effort in changing all the metafiles incl. coverart in my calibre and got really frustrated when I saw that neither on a friends kindle nor on my iphone anything had changed from the downloaded version without the meta or the cover.

Is there also an easy way to get rid of minor typos in the epud?

I really hate seeing this:

"epub | mobi | v5 (Retail)"

and then opening the book in my reader only to find that it has some random design, a bug, the first page of the book, etc., instead of the cover. I would expect that a "Retail" edition of a book WOULD have a cover!

Instead, I now have to delete it out of the reader, convert it to add a cover, save that, and then load it into the reader again, JUST to have a book with a cover on it!

This is the reason I have started including covers in the .rar files of books that I upload now.

im afraid that the quality of 'calibre' conversion to PDF isnt very good. and i do the same. ie convert to RTF , format it and then use foxit or omnipro to convert to PDF . i do this way to keep the fonts/ italics etc. then i convert to .epub or whatever with calibre.
