Hi,
I am a dedicated book reader and read about 2-3 books everyday..I have stacks of paperbacks in my room..About 2 yr bk i strtd reading ebooks which i did on my laptop..I had the HP cover flip laptop that cld be adjusted to look like a tablet..I have about 10,000 ebooks and have my own way of filing books in folders so didnt have any problem..It was heavy but since I stay in India and not all advertised services of ebook readers are available here I managed..Bought BlackBerry Torch 2 months back and 1 free software available to read on bb was Mobibook Pocket Reader(Which I am currently using and am satisfied)..But I know that a lot of people who have been Calibre for a long time and say great things about it..So I wanted to know if I should make the switch to Calibre or just let things be..Is it better than mobi?Reads all formats? Will work on my BB?etc..I know Calibre is not a newly launched but will appreciate any comments..Thanks..

Dude, I have Bold Onyx 9700 too, but I'm not aware of any Calibre as reader on it. AFAIK, it's still a PC app. I haven't checked in BB App World yet. So far, I only managed to read PDF, comics (CBR), MOBI and EPUB format, found nothing to read LIT yet. I just upgraded my Onyx to OS 6 yesterday. Which book format u prefer the most ? Why bother searching for Calibre for bb if u can read pdf, mobi and epub already (plus comic) in ur device. Any other format can be converted using Calibre PC to readable format in our bb, err.. no ?

I don't think Calibre is meant as a reader. It is for management and conversion, as far as I know. Its also a big program, and runs pretty slow on my old PC. I don't think it would work well on any mobile device.

At first, I thought the same way too. I didn't know what I clicked and it opened up reading epub book. It is quite good actually as a reader for PC. There's a next page button for convenient reading and bookmark option too, :D

I use Calibre to convert for iPad and Sony Reader 600. It is a good bit of software, helps me keep my library ordered as well as converting. It has got a reader built in, but runs on PC.

Can any one recommend free software to remove Sony's DRM? I buy the book, and want to read it on a variety of devices. I have read there are some python based script available, but I just want to plug and play.

Thanks

You need to google dedrm epub - and that will lead you to the website to download the software. You will also need to have Python loaded.

If you need help, look on MobileRead website. They won't give you a link to the software though as it is against the website's principles.

Hi andree,

I am having some trouble with mobir reader & hope u can help..I lost my laptop but thankfully had backup of MOST of my stuff so its not so bad..Next day I went 2 the store(just didnt hve the inclination to do a full markrt research) and ended up picking up the latest sony laptop(its just so pretty)..Enjoying it so far & apart from adapting to a new brand havent had many problems but the most important thing for me is to be able to read ebooks on mobi & be able 2 transfer them on my bb..The mobi version available on mobi-book.com is 6.2 but it keeps saying that it is not compatible with my device so i Uninstalled that and installed the one I had saved on my hardisc, which is also same 6.2..Now I can open the reader and import books by going to the folder they are saved in but I am not able to simply go to the ebook, right click and choose to open it with mobi..Also the option of mobi doesnot show in my program files when I try to browse..I have tried installing & removing many times, also tried downloading from different sites..What to do?Please help!!!
Coz importing 1 by 1 is just too much hassle..Sorry for the rant but need help..Thanks a lot..

Version compatibility can be checked when ur syncing the device while browsing the software for mobile device version. That way, you will avoid unnecessary installation.

same question, in the laptop ?

I put the books in the memory card of my blackberry device, which if I may suggest you adding your device profile in User Control Panel here, that may help you get faster replies pertaining to the problem.

For those who aren't sure how this works, just select one of the books in your calibre list and double-click on it with the left button. A new window will open with the selected book in calibre's built-in reader. This works for several formats (not sure if it works with ALL of them, but it has worked with each format I have tried). With calibre's built-in reader, I can even read .epubs, which I DON'T have a separate reader for.

Calibre is a really useful program esp. if you are looking for a good way to structure your ebook collection and keep track of your library. Yes, you can also read with it and it's really useful in converting several ebook formats. It's not an app for your BB.

I really enjoy working with it because my collection gets bigger every day and still I can easily get through it and check out what's missing - I put some effort into the meta-files but calibre really helps you by checking amazon & google for info and you don't have to c&p or type everything yourself.
