Apologies if this isn't the place to ask. iI have bought a few books off Amazon Kindle Store that I think the community would like if I shared. Some of them are azw3 but most azw4. I've managed to remove DRM, but I am unable to properly convert azw4 to mobi. The azw3 files converted fine, but azw4 is having rendering issues no matter what format I convert it into. The layouts are all messed up. Any suggestion on a good tool that can convert clean without all the mess? Thanks. Tried Calibre of course. Thanks!
The azw4 format is an Amazon Kindle eBook, the format specifically for print replicas of textbooks, which includes many embedded images and tables, etc. This means the azw4 eBook actually is a PDF file with a shell or wrapper called azw4. (So as to render in a small handful of eReaders.)
calibre (or any format converter) will suffer the same problems converting to ePUB (or MOBI or even PDF) from azw4/pdf; the new file's layout becomes totally messed up. Because azw4 eBooks are print replica textbooks (pdf format) their image elements do not retain their original layouts when converting to another format.
You can extract the embedded PDF file inside azw4, just like you can extract the embedded ePUB from the azw3, but the problem of converting any pdf file to ePUB or MOBI remains. And is the difficulty you encounter.
I hope my explanation above is clear and helpful.
