If you open a book in the editor (right mouse button - edit book - choose epub), you'll see the size of each file in the epub when you hover over the name with your mouse. Incidentally. there is an option to manually compress image files in the tools - compress images losslessly. The tool comes with an editor to compare the images before and after.
You can check the book before and after conversion to see exactly what changed.
