Setting the font to Georgia, for instance (one has to copy georgia*.ttf from a normal Windows computer, from C:\windows\fonts, to the \windows\fonts directory on the PPC first) gives a great, readable serif font.

No, I'm not paid by anyone at µBook HQ, I just really like the reader and want to share the info. ;)

I copied georgia.ttf from my computer to \windows\fonts and it doesn't show up in options.

I agree that ubook is the best, most versatile ebook reader out there.

After I tried several ebook readers such as Adobe Reader2.0. Mobipocket, iSilo, uBook, eReader, MS Reader, Fast CHM.

I make conclusion that the best of all is "Mobipocket Reader"
Reason : 1. Comfort to read, simple and easy
2. Can read many format like PDF, Office file, HTML, CHM, TXT (convert them easily on PC using Mobipocket Reader Desktop 6.1
3. It is freeware too

Second place is Adobe Reader 2.0 because "Reflow Mode" feature. It is very helpful, We don't have to slide left - right. Just scroll down the ebook. And it is freeware too.

anyone know of an actual reader that will actually read books to the owner of a ppc? be nice to not have to look at a tiny screen, straining one's eyeballs while having a book read to you while you sleep, drive, work, ignore company, or all of the above at the same time....

:D Hi everyone, I think the best pdf viewer are :
1)Documents To Go : It is a office suite with pdf viewer.
2)Foxitpdf : Everyone must be knowing about it.
3)Westtek JETCET PDF Pro : A good one.

And I found a .umd file reader named Anyview but it is a java
app ,I have not tested it but I think it will work in ppc as
far as you have one of any JVM(java virtual machine) like
Esmertec Jbed.

ISilo is at the top of the list for me.

If you have a pdf, you can save it in txt and read it in Isilo or, if you want to keep images, convert to HTML page then using IsiloX (free converter) you convert it in Isilo format.

Hope this helps with the LRF Format

LRS is the source format for Sony eBooks which are also known as BBeB (BroadBand eBook). The LRS format follows the Xylog XML format. The Xylog link provide the particulars for this format.
[edit] LRF

LRS is compiled into LRF files in a proprietary way to produce the files used on the Sony Portable Reader. These files are compressed and may also contain the pagination data for the various font sizes used on the device. For more on this format see: http://www.sven.de/librie/Librie/BBeB
[edit] Devices and Software

The following Devices and Software can read eBooks in the LRF format:

* Sony PRS-300 - 5" Screen Device
* Sony PRS-500 - 6" Screen Device
* Sony PRS-505 - 6" Screen Device
* Sony PRS-600 - 6" Screen Device
* Sony PRS-700 - 6" Screen Device
* Sony Librie - Device
* eBook Library - software, free, Windows only. http://ebooks.connect.com/downloadclient.html
* Calibre - software, free, Windows, Linux, MacOS X

There are also utilities to convert data to this format:

* Book Designer - Create content or convert content.
* Calibre - Convert and read LRF files Converts: HTML, LIT, RTF, TXT, PDF (simple text+few images)
* http://www.msh-tools.com/ebook/lrs2lrf.html converts Source files.
* See the E-book conversion page for more converters

[edit] LRX

If the files are protected by DRM the extension is changed to LRX. Note that the LRX file for the Sony Librie is not compatible with the DRM file used on the Sony Portable Reader Devices. Products purchased on the Sony Connect store will typically have this extension. The Sony DRM method provides for up to 6 devices that can work off the same owner code. One of those codes is used by the PC Desktop Reader called the "eBook Library."

Most PDFs, you can just select all the text (ctrl+a) copy it (ctrl+c) then paste it into notepad (ctrl+v). Save it, and you've converted your pdf to txt. There's also a plugin for word that lets it open PDFs, and once they're open you can save them as whatever you want.

Also, my .02 on ebook readers: RSVP is essential. Once you get used to it, it's the only way to read on the small screen. eReader is a good, free RSVP reader. It's not perfect: it can only read PDB, and it can be a bit slow loading the library/paging out books. However, it's the best WM reader I've found so far. If you decide to give it a try, here is the stuff you'll need to convert books to PDB.

Hi all, not seen it mentioned anywhere but Freda over at xda is a very nice free reader software: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581247 It is for use with html epub and txt......sooo nice to use. A handy epub converter is Calibre also free and found here: http://calibre-ebook.com/ nice to convert pdfs into epubs since pdfs are not great to read on a mobile, it seems to format them well. :)

Maybe this is a bit off subject, and maybe we should start a separate thread for this, but I was curious about the various readers. In this thread you're talking about the software, while I'm talking about the actual reader itself. Before combing through this thread I was only aware of the Kindle and the iPad. I'm very interested in getting a reader as now you guys have addicted me to ebooks (gee, thanks...lol) but I don't know a darned thing about them. I mean I can figure out what the iPad might have, and have seen the Kindle, but is there a better one out there? Do they all have wifi or other wireless capabilities? Which one reads the most different formats so conversion becomes less of an issue? I mean like can one of these read pdf, epub, txt, etc.? I'd really like to hear the opinions of those of you whom have these devices. Hope it's okay to post this here...
