Hi all,
Im sorry if this in the wrong place but I don't know where or who to ask. I have calibre and currently its storing my books in the calibre folder as author,title author for example
A. Lee Martinez-A Nameless Witc - A. Lee Martinez
{instead of} A. Lee Martinez-A Nameless Witch
its really frustrating is there a setting I can fix this with id need an idiot guide as I don't do much except add books thank you in advance

My understanding is that the folders Calibre creates are not to be messed with because it can screw up the database. It's best to access those books from Calibre instead of your file explorer. Of course, you can copy them, etc. but don't rename the folders or the files inside.

I could be wrong, but that's what I've read in other forums.

What exactly is it you're trying to do?

Hi! If you mean you're looking at your books through your Windows Documents folder - you shouldn't be messing with that. If you mean you're having this issue when you look at calibre when you open the app, you can edit the book information however you want. Go to Edit Metadata at the top of the page, type and save your changes.

calibre is a great program to use - both for advanced and very basic users. You can access some Help also at the top of the main screen.

Edit: I see now that you're using iPad. But the same advice holds about not accessing your books through your operating system's folders.

firerayne, I agree with the other recent comments here about only accessing your books in the Calibre Library by using by Calibre 'View' option. Changing directories within Calibre can only lead to disaster. Are you able to use the 'View' function from Calibre's main page? Can you read the titles of all your books there? If so, just leave Calibre to arrange its directories as it wants.

It was within the calibre folders (I havent tried to do anything with them, I remember before though there was a setting within calibre where you set up prefixes and it then saved them the way you wanted perhaps it it no longer in this version thank you for your replies

There's just no reason to ever bother with the folder structure. You can edit every metadata field - author, title, series, tags, publisher and on and on - however you like; you can arrange the fields - author, title, series, etc. - to display in any order you choose.

If I am reading you correctly, you want the "Calibre Library" folder within your OS to list your books by first name, last name of the author in addition to showing them that way within Calibre itself.

If this is correct and the Calibre Library folder is listing them with last name, first name, I believe the way to fix the problem is to go into Preferences > Tweaks and look for 'Author Sort Name Algorithm'. At the bottom of the panel you'll have the option to Edit Tweak and from there you look for author_sort_copy_method = . You want to change the value after that to 'copy' - I believe the default is invert.

I have my own library folder set up the same way but it's been so long since I set that up that I do not recall if it auto-fixes author folders already set lastname, firstname or if I had to copy everything over to a new library so that the authors would be imported the way that I wanted them. And you might want to make a backup of your Calibre Library before you edit the tweak - just to be on the safe side.

Thanks guys I had a bit of help from one of the mods and its saving as I want with no messing just didn't have the right template
