There are two types of DAISYs on Open Library: open and protected. Currently, our protected DAISY books can only be opened using a key issued by the Library of Congress NLS program.

That is all I know. I have tried to get (DAISY) books, but... no joy.

Thanks for the Reply Beukies,

While doing some random searches I came across this http://www.donjohnston.com/products/dai ... hkVF9sN9-g

It is supposed to be the only type of it's kind, but I'm unsure if it has the NLS key built in, or if it just re-encodes an encrypted epub to an un-encrypted epub by using the NLS key that would have been downloaded onto one's P.C..

But Getting hold of this program is a different story, It seems to be a very well guarded program.

I would think a US citizen should get it for free as itis issued by Library of Congress. I am not American so I don't qualify, maybe some of our US members can investigate further?

How about people who are a beer short of a six pack? Do we qualify?

Wouldn't that be most of the population? It seems that way here on the East Coast, at any rate 8)

From my understanding, correct me if I'm wrong, DAISY is a format (like .ePUB or .MOBI).

Digital Accessible Information SYstem (DAISY) format is a means of creating digital talking books for people who wish to hear--and to navigate--written material presented in an audible format. DAISY helps those with "print disabilities," including blindness, impaired vision, and dyslexia, to read electronic texts that have been converted into its format.

And you need special "programs" to read them.

As for the protected part, no clue!

And no, Zack, the ADA does not recognize a twisted sense of humor as a disability. Although, in your case....
