Hi, I like your eBook releases very much. But one thing I noticed is that links are down very quickly. I think you should take advantage of some Chinese sites. Chinese file hosting sites are free and everybody can download with one click without having to wait 60 seconds or enter CAPTCHA. What's more, files almost don't get deleted there. Once registered , you get 15GB of free storage space (additional space can be gained by login and invitations). Upload a file and create a sharing link and it's done. It's kind of like premium service for free. Downloading speed is usually above 200KB/s. None of the sites you're using is even near that.

http://www.115.com is one of the best. Here's a link to get a feel for the speed.(http://115.com/file/be98biey) It's an android app uploaded by me. Open the link and you will find four buttons just below the ad banner (blue, green, orange, blue). Just click the second green button(which says regular download) and the file will be downloaded.

The only problem might be the language barrier.

The first line is for entering email address. The second password. The box is for "remember me".

The blue button says "sign in" and the white button says "register".

My concern would be for the down-loaders, especially novice users. They would come to that site and be totally clueless, I was at first.

Wonder if we could add "Clink on the green button and the download will start automatically." as apart of our eBook releases?

That's great then. Google Translate doesn't do very well in terms of Chinese-English translation. But simple words like "register" "log-in" are not a problem. I was just worried that non-natives might get lost among all the Chinese. (though even without a translation tool, you can probably guess what each button means)

A good idea. I wonder why English file hosting sites do such a bad job and at the same time charge a premium price for things that come naturally in China. There has been a revamp of 115.com recently which let users get less free space (in addition to the 15GB) every day. Chinese netizens had a revolt. If they were to use Depositfiles or Mediafire, they would certainly abandon them before long.

I assume you mean English 'language' file hosting sites?

As for the rest I refer you here. :D

How do you know that this isn't an attempt by the Chinese gub'mint to further invade not only US citizen's but every Joe, Dick and Harriet's privacy?

They don't have any respect for their own citizens privacy or rights, what makes you believe that they will respect yours?

"That you're paranoid doesn't mean that they are not out to get you" :)

I think you're exaggerating. If the US government want to get a copy of a citizen's email, it can. But it doesn't choose to do so. That's the same with the Chinese government. This is a site created by a company intended to make money (it's touting the VIP service). You just can't assume every private company in China is a spy for the government, can you? If you've got an iPad, or a Kindle, chances are, it's made in China. Do you have to worry that a spying device is assembled? Besides, if you really worry about privacy, you can only upload files you want to share. For those personal documents, you can always resort to other sites. I'm just suggesting a better way of sharing ebooks.

Are you saying that if Random House find a link for one of their ebooks on that site and then notify that site that they are hosting illegal content, the site will simply ignore the notification?

With all due respect that's your personal opinion which I don't agree with. If links are down here you PM the OP. If they do not respond you contact a Mod who can see when the OP was last active. If the OP hasn't been on the site past a certain length of time the thread gets moved to Expired releases and you can request a new release in the Requests forum. (At least that's how I think it goes).

I can't say I've noticed that links get nuked that quickly around here. Plus using the allowed Mirrors means that it'll be out there somewhere in the interwebz.

1. To your first question-- No, I don't think so. What I meant was that files don't get deleted as easily or as quickly.
2. Wouldn't it be better if we can download it right away rather than PM the OP and let him/her upload it once again? I mean, sure, it won't hurt to wait for a few more days, but it would be better if the links are not down in the first place. It's a pity that some good books just vanish because the OP doesn't reply. Creating mirrors is a way round this, but not the best one. I've noticed books released one or two years ago whose every mirror is not accessible.
