Hi,

does anyone here have a good (preferably not-too-difficult) way to make an audible downloaded audiobook into a plain old MP3 format?

If so, help?

Audible is already in an MP3 format. If you convert out of Audible you lose the chapter markers that are inserted by Audible.

yes, and no. The format is mp332 and it is a pain if you have two PC on which you play the book as you have to bother whith the software and so on and so forth. Plus i usually do lend my books to friends, but giving them my iPod is not really an option. I dont really mind loosing the chapters so is there a way to loose the encoding?

There are a few options that allow you to maintain the integrity of the audiobook without the use of conversion but there are restrictions in doing so.

Burn to disc as an aduio disc then rip it back from the disc into MP3 files.

Good stuff. Also if you are using iTunes/iPod to playback audio books there is an option to remember playback position which is a MUST for audio books I find.

I use Soundtaxi, it works great but it takes the length of the book to convert, so I usually start it then go to bed =)
