Sigil. (.Epub editor program)

Mostly because I normally read .mobi format, but when I see something that needs to be fixed (no chapter breaks, bad formatting, broken paragraphs, etc.), I load it up in Sigil, fix it and then continue to read/fix it as I go.

I dislike PDF, it's slow on my outdated computer. I try to get everything in epub.

One nice thing about the epub, I can actually open it with 7zip, and look at the cover image or even the html/xhtml pages (without style formatting, of course.) That can tell me if I have the right version of a book (with expanded content), or if there are major errors within the file such as weird punctuation. I found one recently that had zero special punctuation (curly quotes, dashes, ellipses, etc.) I don't know why the reader in calibre couldn't detect it, but I looked at the html in a text reader, and the punctuation was all unreadable weird marks (more like a space than anything else.) Maybe the html encoding was bad, instead of being UTF-8 or something.

The above is why I dislike Microsoft Word, they use non-standard encoding for things like curly quotes, and it causes problems when read in other programs. That, and the program adds tons of bloat to documents and html conversions.

I just use the reader on Calibre.

I use Caliber to convert to .mobi and and read on my Kindle. I can also tranfer the .epub to my iPad, but reading is more comfortable on the Kindle for me.

I'm another Calibre user, though I also have the firefox add-on. Mostly to check what I am being told is the book, is actually the book before I download it. I rarely read on my Laptop/PC, just convert for my portable ad off I go.
