Do you really mean eBook Reader or any mobile device which can read ebooks. Really it depends on your personal needs and preferences; i do not use ebook readers because i find then too limiting and closed, so i use a 7" tablet, it really depends on your life style.

read the report and watch the vid and then go to a store and get your hands on some to try.

Good Luck !

I have 3 Nooks.....1st Edition WiFi, a Simple Touch, and a Tablet.

All 3 will accept a micro SD card, so you can have a lot more stored onboard. All will accept the epub format, which I far prefer above any other. I download all files to my computer, into folders, and load to my Calibre ebook management program. From there, I load them to my ereader.

The WiFi is no longer available, but the Simple Touch is out there, at under $100 US. The Tablet is about $200 US. Simple Touch is 6", and the Tablet is 7".

I have a Kindle that is mine and an iPad that is form my employer. I use both but prefer my Kindle as it's smaller and more lightweight than an iPad. But both are good.

If you;re pushing me to vote for one... Kindle

I had an iPad 3 then the wife bought me an iPad mini...(So much better to read in bed, lighter and travel size)

Loved my Sony 505 back in the day but, the iPad experience is brilliant in comparison, IMO.

I use a Kindle 3 (keyboard) and the Kindle app on my iPad (and iPhone). My books (purchased at Amazon, download or shared from http://lendle.me ) all stay synced between devices on the same page.

The Kindle I keep in the car (and use to read in bright light) and the iPad at home (usually in bed with backlight dimmed and lights off) the iPhone is a backup in case I forgot (or didn't think I'd need a device that day). But it's awesome to always be on the same page automagically.

FYI, I specifically picked the black and white 3g Kindle 3 (keyboard) model for TWO reasons:
1) the free 3g browsing (any sites, not just the limited site in current 3g models). I don't use it often but when I want it, it's great.
2) http://kindlefeeder.com sends magazine type formatted news (mostly full RSS feeds) vi e-mail to my Kindle daily (it's an interesting intuitive navigation system if you haven't seen it and it's nicer than the way the Kindle Fire or iPad app). The newer Kindles only use this "magazine" format IF you sync via USB. Very inconvenient! The e-mail way it's just on my Kindle the next time I pick up up; the WiFi reaches the car or if I miss it, I can download via the 3g (or even force generate a new block of news).
3) The black and white works well in the sunlight, not like tablet glare issues.

I've grown to love my kindle although it took a while. My sister has an ipad but says there's no way she would use it to read a book as it's too heavy. I got the one with a keypad which is very handy at times. The extra memory is nice to have but I tend to keep my books on my pc and only keep 100 or so on the kindle because I found I couldn't find stuff if I had too much on it.

if you don't care about fancy bells and whisles or color the "simple nook touch + glow light" or even the older model "nook" would be perfect for you.

I personally like the Skytex Primer because I have to have color and I like the fact it has so many other features.

A nook "simple touch" will run you $65-95 depending on where you buy it

the Skytex will run you $75-150 depending on where you buy it.

It really depends on what you WANT in a ereader.

Features I personally MUST have in a ereader are

Color, large memory AND option of expansion, ability to read in the dark OR direct sunlight,
relative durability, no software required for file transfer, and compatibility with all the main file-types for digital books

The Nook has all of that but requires online registration for initial set up, and is not compatible with as many file types as the skytex

I have your bog standard Kobo Touch, it's not bad, but I had a kindle in the past which I preferred, although I do love the "openness" of the kobo as I can easily download epubs for free or from other websites instead of having to pay for everything through Amazon's somewhat inflated prices. :), I had a nook but I had to take it back to the store as I had issues with it functioning correctly.
