Ive been borrowing a few audiobooks online from my library. The library uses Overdrive software. Alot of the files are WMA. I tried some of the online DRM removing software but all of them turned into static.

Ive gotten around the restrictions twice by burning audiobooks to discs and then ripping them. But each audio book is worth 10+ cds and the process just took too much time. I have also noticed that some audio books do not even let me burn the book so I have no way around the DRM!

Anyone have any suggestions of what to try next?

You will find that the site http://stream-recorder.com/ is very helpful It is a forum.
Note Burner, Soundtaxi or Tunebite would be useful software, but cost. Look them up on Google and see what you find.

All the best.

A little late in the day but I was looking around here to see if there is any discussion of OverDrive (as I don't have access but wondering if there was anyone around who did and would be interested in seeing if they could try and extract some books) and thought I'd pass this along, it is a few years old so no guarantees:

Which seems to work - you can get Open ePub or PDF downloads, but most go through Adobe Digital Editions. If you are planning on releasing the ePub liberated from DRM on here, then you should open it up and look for the piece of code in the head that looks like this:

<meta content="urn:uuid:XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX" name="Adept.expected.resource" />

The urn:uuid part is your unique identifier and you'll want to copy that into the find/replace box, select all HTML files and remove that.

edited to say:

This isn't your Adobe ID. If you go into your My Digital Editions folder, change the .epub file extension to .zip and unsip it, you'll find a rights.xml file in the META-INF folder (the de-DRM tools remove this and the encryption.xml that is also in there. It probably does other clever stuff too). In there you'll find the <user></user> tag containing your Adobe ID (that you can find through the Help in Adobe Digital Editions) and next to it is a <resource> tag which is the one in the meta tags I give above. I assume this is the other half of the key which unlocks your DRMed file and can be reverse engineered to your ID.

It is not 100% clear if this is merely an ID attached to every copy of the same book, but there is a discussion on it starting here

http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?p=915228#post915228

Which includes this:

It's theoretically possible that an Adobe SDK reader (Digital Editions, txtr on iPhone) could phone home those tags, leading to the disabling of the Adobe account of anybody who used INEPT.

So, until this gets resolved, it is best to assume it is an ID that is uniquely linked to you and remove it before releasing it online.

Generally speaking, the Overdrive books are protected by Adobe DRM.
In my experience, you need to make sure you can read the books on local computer via Adobe Digital Editions at first, I guess by this way your computer can generate some clues for removing DRM.

For the tool, you can use Alf's scripts, Calibre plugin, or the freeware ePUBee.
