I remember reading like 3-4 cases that users got their accounts banned or deleted because they couldn't prove ownership of more like 100-200 books that were sync to their account on their kindle. I'm asking this because its my birthday and i got a Kindle Paper-white (i would never have bought one) and i love it. So anyone has any info on the subject?? i would really hate my Amazon Account because i have about 200-300 books that i bought with my hard earned money, im a student.

If you bought the books with your hard earned money then Amazon will not give you any problem; after all you have proof of purchase. But be sure that Amazon does monitor what passes thru your sync account, particularly when volumes are high.

I too am becoming increasingly paranoid about using my Kindle after reading about Amazon's drastic actions against some users. I have used my Kindle email address to sync a few books but that seems like asking for trouble so I'm going to quit using that route. What I'm wondering is if Amazon also monitors books that I side load directly via USB? Anyone have any knowledge about this?

I don't think so if you upload by USB because when I check my cloud drive on their website to see what the contents listed for my kindle, it doesn't include the books I upload by USB. Also you can't sync them to other Kindle or the Kindle app on your phone or computer. I have to individually upload them to all of my Kindle products. So I don't think they are aware whats on your kindle unless you use the whisper sync method.

I think you must be right. It would be incredibly devious for them to monitor what you sideload and while I don't put it past them, I can't turn up any evidence of it.

If you send books or other documents to your Kindle email address, they will potentially sync to all your devices and be archived in the cloud, just like purchased books. I have concluded for myself that this is safe to do only for truly personal documents.
