I like books that are like the Indiana Jones movies. Historical novels (1800-1945) with archeology theme, a bit of suspense and maybe love.

The Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters. Setting begins in 1884 and ends in early 1920's. The audio versions are wonderful, read by Barbara Rosenblatt.

James Rollins. Just about anything he has written feels very similar to Indiana Jones.

has some supernatural/magic-y bits in it, but zoe Archer's Blades of the Rose has Indiana Jones style archaeology* in it and it's that time period you mentioned...

*as in some mention of archaeology or a dig, and then off to quest/protect that item.... :P
