I'm looking for a new read /author - something hot and steamy, but sweet and slow and sensual and ROMANTIC. Something where I care about the characters... I don't want my heart shattered/battered/ripped-in-two, and it NEEDS a HEA. Erotica would be a wonderful inclusion also...

My preference is for historical romances (not one where the chick just gives in straight away though, knowing full well she'll be "ruined"), paranormal romance, or something with a supernatural twist. Not so much in to contemporary romance, or at least nothing I've tried has fit the bill.

And just to make something crystal clear - Fifty shades or anything Fifty-shade-esque is NOT romance

Try the Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo. It's a YA novel set in historical Malacca. Beautiful scenery an prose, with amazing supernatural stuff thrown in.

Try Loretta Chase's Lord of Scoundrels. It's told from both the hero and the heroine's viewpoints, and neither one of them is the wilting flower type. Straight historical romance with no supernatural elements.

If you like historicals, I recommend Mary Balogh and Julia Quinn. Both write characters that you really care about. They're not very steamy, though.
