I like Rae Carson and Neil Gaiman. Being YA Fantasy, they're kinda easy to get into, for me. I havent read any Kate Elliott so I'm not sure the type of fantasy ur into XD. I like the Pittacus Lore books ( i am number four and the power of six) but its under listed as scifi. *idk, to me its more fantasy than scifi*

I got hooked on Fantasy as a kid starting with the Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander.

Easiest fantasy for beginners I'd suggest The Belgariad series by David Eddings, The Icewind Dale series by R.A. Salvatore and the original Shannara Trilogy by Terry Brooks.

The Belgariad is a good series but goes on and on and on. I got bored with the Shannara books with the second book. R.A. Salvatore writes good pulp fantasy; easy to read, not much depth. The Dragonlance books by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman are similar in that way.

The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny is a great non-stereotypical fantasy story. The same with Chronicles of Thomas Covenant by Stephen R. Donaldson, though I wouldn't call that one a "beginner's" fantasy.

The Valdemar Series by Mercedes Lackey (she has a website) is what got me started on Fantasy, she has tons of books out and I've read and thoroughly enjoyed them all. My son at age 26 loves them too.

Hi, the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs are very very good. It's more urban fantasy, though. Also, big favourite are YA classics, His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman.

I loved Darren Shan & J K Rowling, has anyone tried Philip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials'? Fantastic trilogy, as soon as my son finished them, I'd sneak off with them! He also liked Brian Jacques, and the 'Sharpe' series.

I first fell in love in fantasy books when I read the "Witcher" series by Sapkowski years ago; so far only the first book - Blood of Elves - of the series has been translated, but still, it's worth the wait.
I guarantee you won't be able to put it down :)

I don't know if you'd put Rick Riordan's books into fantasy but they were great and easy listening to also.

I would second the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, and also his other series Codex Alera. Also Raymond Feist, Robin Hobb, and Robert Jordan.

There are two series that I just can't wait to read but they are more Urban Fantasy. First is the Magic series by Ilona Andrews, if you like you heroines on the snarky side. The second series is the Connor Grey series by Mark Del Franco. (I also agree about the Dresden Files)
