Anyone a fan of the TV Show and/or books? I've been reading the books and plan on watching each episode once I finish up to that place in the book. Anyone doing the same thing? How did you find out about it? Which is better the show or books in your opinion? Are they staying true enough to the book for you? Am I asking to many questions lol?! Personally I love the show and the books but I don't know many who actually know what it is!

I read all the books except for the newest one that came out recently some four years before the show started but the show is still very interesting, though maybe that's because I don't remember everything already. The books are entertaining, certainly not great literature, but a fun read.

I love them both! I disagree with your comment about the books not being great literature. I am 14 years old and I am still able to read this story and understand it and it's in oldish victorianish proper englishish! But I do see where you are coming from because GRRM does sometimes forget how the characters talk and sometimes they'll talk a little more modern then in the other parts. I'm only on book 2 so I might be wrong about it being very good!

I suggest that first you read all the books, then watch the show. The show, especially after the first season, doesn't follow the "one book per season" rule. You'll get things sooner or later. And this way you'll have forgotten more things from the books when you watch the show.

I read all the books. They're great. Perhaps his prose isn't the best around, and perhaps there were a couple of better choices he could have made, but they are still fantastic. The characters are extraordinary, he's perhaps the best author I've read when it comes to characterization. The story also takes alot of unexpected twists and turns that are quite enjoyable, and the sheer scope of it is amazing.

I've watched both seasons of the show, and I won't anymore. The first season was much better, but even then I missed some character moments. In the second season I've missed them even more, as there a lot less of them. And some of the changes, especially the ones written by Vanessa Taylor, were quite badly written and unauthentic. And I don't mind changes. Some of the new scenes have been great, but others have diminished the stories. Seeing as there'll be even MORE story and characters and even MORE possibly bad divergences, I've decided that I'm not really interested in continuing with the show.

Oh, and when you finish the books, I recommend you read the Dunk & Egg novellas. They are in the same universe (only 80 years before) and quite good (except the second novella, which was OK). They are also more romantic in nature, and much smaller in scope, as you follow 2 characters from the POV of one, so it's not the same as the ASOLAF books :D

I've been doing that and it's really cool! I love the first season (I was 2 episodes away from finishing it but then i stoped for a while and forgot about some things so I decided to restart the tv show) sooooooooo much! I hope the second season isn't as bad as you say it is! I agree with you that there are some parts that are good and others that arn't so much but I still enjoy reading them! I definatly will read dunk & egg after I finish the main series!

I really came across this series late in the game, probably just as the first episode was released on Tv. After the first season's cliff hanger I dove into the books hoping to find more resolutions to the story arcs. Five thousand-pages-or-so-per-book books later, not much has changed.

Though I do love the shows and have enjoyed the books I do not know if I can continue skimming Martins books looking for plots and solutions. He writes as if he is paid per word regardless of whether those added words are needed to aid the story.

The first three books were good and slowly went downhill from there. I am alsmost sad I spent real money on physical copies of the books. Get them on ebooks, most definately. I will continue with the show, for now, to see if they can speed the story along and hold my interest for longer there.

Books 3 and 4 were a complete let down. I think that he was smoking too much weed at the time and couldn't keep his focus on one story arc, let alone five or six. Book 5 was written after re-hab or something. Better by many orders of magnitude than the previous two.

It cleans up a lot of messes and concentrates on just a couple of stories, not a whole asylum full.

OMG that's hilarious!!!! I haven't picked up a Clash of Kings in a looooooooong time because it's getting really slow. I think I'll just get the audiobook and listen to it whenever I have nothing better to do. I did that with a Game of thrones because I wanted to read it faster and I liked how the reader read it but I always found myself getting distracted like when I was on the bus with my friends. But oh well! I'll finish the series eventually! I wonder if HBO is gonna cancel the show because people stop watching the show. This is the one time that I actually kinda want the movie/tv show to be different from the books!

I've actually been doing exactly what you described with the first book/season. I'm almost done. I really love both the show and the book so far!

I read the first three books right after the third was published. I am quite put off by you Johnny-come-latelys who haven't waited a decade or so for the next one to come out. ;)

I felt A Dance with Dragons was such a drag to go through. And I really hope the next one doesn't focus a whole lot on Rickon, because Bran is now dull.

I read the books first before seeing the tv series, and I'm a bigger fan of the books.
