Hands down I can't just name one author who stands out because they are ALL good in their own right to me.

  1. Brad Thor
  2. Daniel Silva
  3. Alex Berenson
  4. Andrew Britton
  5. Vince Flynn
  6. Marc Cameron
  7. Lee Child (Does Jack Reacher count? I'll let Zackddog answer that)
  8. Ben Coes
  9. Michael Walsh (New find but DEFINITELY interesting)
  10. John Gilstrap

Even though it's numbered it doesn't put perspective on what order I view them in. These are just to name a few.

Impossible to name them. Some of the best authors date back to before most of you were born!

You CAN'T even consider a list without The Bourne Identity. In my not so humble and perhaps misinformed opinion, Robert Ludlum pioneered the anti-Bond type hero thriller. Jason Bourne was a tormented, full of remorse and full of HUMAN emotions killer, not a highly functioning, suave sociopath. If you look at today's thriller heroes, all of them bear a resemblance to Bourne.

And the book was as well researched as it was written and edited.

BEST. THRILLER. EVER.

Hear, hear! :)
Bourne was definitely something else - although a good sociopath also has his advantages.
And the movie was a mistake of epic proportions :/

With Tom Cruise in the lead role, I'm not even going to watch this one! There are soooo many others who would have been better suited to play Jack Reacher!

Anyway, some of my picks:

Jack Higgins - Sean Dillon books
Robert Ludlum - Bourne books
Eric von Lustbader - Bourne books continued
Frederick Forsyth - many books

Edited to correct my memory glitch.

 The Sean Dillon books were/are written by Jack Higgins.

Frederick Forsyth's latest The Cobra, was very average compared to his prevoius blockbusters. I'm also not too taken with Eric von Lustbader's version of Bourne.

His continuation though seems to have been met with mixed reviews. Are they worth the reading?

Yes, they are worth reading. Von Lustbader is an excellent author. It's just that sometimes I get the feeling its all about rolling out the tried and tested recipe for money.

Mike Lawsons Joe Demarco books are pretty good too i just read the last one house blood and i cant wat til he does another

the Ethan Gage series by Steven Gore are okay too, as is Andrew Brittons Ryan Kealey series and Andrew Peterson's Nathan McBride. Daniel Silva's Gabriel Allon is too

They arent Reacher, Mitch Rapp,or Scot Harvath, but they fill the gaps until Flynn Child and Thor, come out with new ones if you catch my drift

Well crap! my memory ain't what it used to be. OK, then:

Jack Higgins - Sean Dillon books
Frederick Forsyth - many books - one of my favorites - No Comebacks (ala O. Henry-style short stories)
