Hey everybody,

this is my first post in here, I am totally stunned how amazing this whole mobilism site is. You guys are awesome. I just recently got a Kindle Fire and am not used to this mobile thing alltogether - got my first Smartphone 4 months ago aswell.

At the moment I'm searching for some new good books to read. (well, thats not totally true, as I'm reading the Hunger Games atm, but that will not last very long). As good books are always way too short, I got used to read these multipart books like the Bourne Collection (although the last part was unreadable - Im sorry bout that :( ) or Lord of the Rings.

I find it hard to get a good recommendation about a good title, so I thought i might give this one a try.

So I'm searching for a book with at least 2 sequels, the more the better. (the Hitchhiking series was great for example - a pity that it ends some day) I dont really know how I can describe a genre I like, most important is a good consistent story and a good writing style.

Thanks already for any recommendations,
Greetings

Depends on what your looking for. Are you looking for anything or certain books? There is a LOT to go on.

If you liked Hunger Games, the Maze Runner series by James Dashner is another good read.

If you like a good detective story, Chris Carter's Robert Hunter series is great. Hunter deals with the worse of the worst serial killers. the writing is gripping and so many twists. it's great! The 4th in the series just came out.

Um.... I kinda expected this answer.

I tried to clear out, that I dont really have some preferences. Once I thought, that I really hate Sci-Fi, but I learned thats not true aswell. But as I read that other answer, I figured out, what I really dont like - detective stories. Sorry about that, thank you anyway ImzadiRose. :)

I like stories with many scenes, like the Dan Brown stories, where there is a cut to another character every 2 chapter or so. That mean trick helps to keep the tension high. :D

And I don't prefer new books either. Old books have the adventage, that you dont have to wait for the sequels. :)
I like subtle humour (such a pity Douglas Adams is dead), but it's not a must-have. The story can be breathtaking aswell.
I'm sorry I can't set the limits straight as many others could, but thats maybe the point why I'm asking professionals here. :)

As I study electrical engineering I can just add, that most technical explanations in book will rather make me angry ;) I like that fantasy sorcerer stuff much more, where they simply can do stuff - no need to think about why

My brother is into fantasy...he loves Tad Williams and David Eddings. I don't read that much fantasy but I really liked the Seventh Sword series by Dave Duncan when I read it as a teen. A lot of people are crazy about R.A. Salvatore but I haven't read him.

Some YA stuff you might like is the Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness, and the Last Survivors series by Susan Beth Pfeffer. Oh, and the Ember series by Jeanne DuPrau.

Mission: Earth series by L. Ron Hubbard - Sci-Fi - 10 HUGE books in the series (9 sequels?) - funny - lots of different viewpoint changes - older books.

(Disregarding all that Scientology stuff - the man could write! :D )

I was like - 'how do I say this now politely', until I read that last one. :D

Thanks so far everyone, I think I have enough stuff to test, I will give both the fantasy and the Sci-Fi a try. :)

I know. I posted Battlefield Earth and someone jumped right in and started giving me a hard time because of that. It has NOTHING to do with his books. Neither I (nor anyone else) has to be a believer or part of that to read his stories.

If you like hard hitting action with some darkness, try Lee Child's Jack Reacher series; Greg Rucka's Atticus Kodiak series, and Andrew Vachss's Burke series.

I recommend Game of Thrones by George RR Martin and Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb. Both are the first books in epic series.

Also, if you like crime/detective, I really enjoyed the Kenzie/Gennaro series by Dennis Lehane. It's saddening that he stopped writing them. There are 6 books in the series, and one was a Hollywood movie, Gone, Baby, Gone.

I do have the series, PM, if you would like them.
