Between historical and contemporary, which genre do you guys prefer more?

I'm a huge fan of historical - ballroom, skirts, and the glittering world of British nobility - holds too much allure for me, though the whole bit about the ton and proper behavior of ladies do tire me out from time to time.

I love historical too :)
But sometimes contemporary is kind of good if I'm in a mood for it

ugh, actually it's my sister who likes to read historical romance since she graduated from an english literature college. She said, what made those stories interesting, most specific during Victorian age, were the way they bantered words. It's always filled with flowery choice of words to mention for even delicate parts of body or actions, if you know what I mean,
For example, the 'unmentionable', 'exquisite pleasures of the marriage bed', and also the transportation means during the era, like curricles, phaetons.
Well, I don't know if that counts tho since my kinda books are more to paranormal genre thingy,

Historical fiction is definitely my favorite genre, of any genres in literature, because of how much potential it has; just now, I'm reading "The Impeachment of Abraham Lincoln" by Stephen L. Carter, and it's very good; written well, nicely paced, excellent fictional characters mixed with historical characters. Wonderful read.

There's just so much the genre has to be discovered.

For some reason, I can't get into Historical books at all (fiction, nonfiction, romance, etc.) so between historical and contemporary, I choose contemporary. But I agree with others, paranormal is fun to read as well. Actually, I like reading books based in the future as well.

I'm definitely a historical romance person, although lately I've been reading a lot more contemporaries than I used to. (Meaning now I read some, whereas before I read none.) I prefer contemporary paranormals to straight contemporary, though.

I read about 50/50. Its nice to see where my genes came from and what they missed. As I'm old so it's nice to read about the things that happened in my life time also.

I like mostly contemporary and paranormal books. If the historical book is also paranormal all the better.

You would be amazed by how good has become the contemporary literature.
Try reading Melina Marchetta or John Green, or Laini Tailor.
