I need some recommendations for books to read. I like books about war, fantasy, magic, scifi. I can't get into George RR Martin's books. Some authors I've read and enjoyed.

Partick Rothfuss
Jim Butcher
Brian Sanderson
L.E Modesitt
W.E.B Griffin
Guy Gavriel Kay
John Grisham
R.A Salvatore
Naomi Novik
Read all the Star Wars books until New Jedi Order
Michael J Sullivan
David Eddings
Stephen King
Robert Jordan
Terry Goodkind

Any suggestions?

Orson Scott Card: Ender Series
Lois McMaster Bujold: Miles Vorkosigan Series
Douglas Adams: Hitchhiker series
Kevin Hearne: Iron Druid Series (I thought this was most like Jim Butcher's Dresden series)

I suspect Stephen R Donaldson's Gap series would be right up your alley.

Have you ever read John Varley's Gaea Trilogy (Titan, Wizard, and Demon)? These were published right around the early '80s and blend sci-fi space exploration and giant space habitats with fantasy elements of mythical-like creatures. Thrown in the mix are plenty of movie references and a couple of minor battle scenes.
