i have a lot of good books and followed a lot of good authors.
but i have also found a LOT of ( in my view ) a lot of junk.
i am talking the kind of junk that you have to wonder what were they thinking?

lets not have a large discussion or even replies to peoples lists.
just post what you hate and why you think that way and walk away.

because if no one speaks out some other poor bastard might waste a hour of their lives
reading witten diarrhea.

i hate terry goodkind and the sword of truth series.
the first book was pretty good, but everything after then read like
a bad 1970's anti soviet propaganda book for people with an iq under 80
by book 6 i think i felt he was writing pulp fiction with only the barest of story lines
because he was getting paid huge amounts to write anything no matter how bad it was.

i cant remember how far into the series i went until i thought maybe i was a self destructive idiot,
that was only still reading this series because i have hidden masochistic issues and my knife was dull.

i have read a lot of garbage in my life, but the sword of truth series by terry goodkind
made me long for the days when my girlfriend burned dinner every single night for a year.

Wow, no one?

I *hated* Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. The MC was pathetic, I had no sympathy for her, and I just hated the writing.
Bret Easton Ellis is one author I've tried to read, but I disliked. I don't remember exactly why. I'm on the horns of a dilemma, though because I want to read American Psycho.
I'm pretty much over cozy mysteries, but 2 series have made me want to chew nails: The Mysteries of Max by Nic Saint (the grandma needs killing yesterday) and Pet Whisperer P.I. by Molly Fitz (MC and gang are TSTL and seriously contaminate crime scenes while "securing it").
I also detest "fated mates" plot lines. I dropped a series by a Katherine-something because of this. The first 3(?) were funny and OK, but, boy, it got stale fast. If you're an adult and you know this is BS, OK. But it would sure make for messed up expectations if you're young, impressionable, and inexperienced. Also, the alpha male/claimed/possessed by/"bred" BS.

Now look what you did. :D

Hubbard's Mission Earth series. I barely made it through the first volume, early 1930's pulp SF at it's lowest level.

I really enjoyed the Midnight, Texas series by Charlaine Harris, so I tried reading Dead Until Dark. Everyone loves Sookie Stackhouse and the HBO series True Blood was popular, so it's got to be good. Right?

No. I didn't like Sookie and the vamps were major jerks. I think I made it through four or five chapters before I gave up and never went back. I didn't hate the series, but I didn't like it and was very, very disappointed.

@Dendra
I'm glad you posted that. I really liked Midnight, too, and have the Sookie books for the same reason you posted. Haven't started them yet. Maybe someday I will, but it's nice to know ahead of time that they're not like Midnight.
