hi , I must have been about 4 / 5 years old and it was the Peter and Jayne books by Ladybird , then it was Enid Blyton . I still have some of the books now and I'm coming up to 50. I taught my children to read using the Peter and Jayne books

The one book that is still read every christmas eve is The Christmas Story and even though my kids have now grown up , all 3 still argue over Who is going to read it .

I started reading when I was around 4 or 5. I've always been in to reading since I was a kid. Also, I remember getting giddy to new textbooks that I'll end up reading them. So when school starts, my books already looks used

I have to admit that I have only just started

I did the usual reading in school etc then read a few over the years on holiday etc, but not anything consistently.

I have now bought a kindle and I'm trying to read regularly, partly due to being shamed into it by seeing how much my gf reads and also because I feel I should.

I'm enjoying it so hopefully I will stick with it :D

The first book I remember reading on my own was The Magic Faraway Tree and I think I was six. I picked up the Narnia series shortly after.

Some of the other kids (we had a mixed-age class) were reading Swallows and Amazons but I never got into that series.

I've grown the love of reading (seriously, deeply fall in love) when I was 14 years old. I remembered that was "Chicken Soup for the Souls", a book left (forget) by my teacher. I stole it. And read from start to finish then I returned it back. I don't know why. Maybe it restored my faith in friendship, humanity after I saw so much drama, fights every day in my class plus it helped me get better and better in literature class. Then I went to the bookstore to purchase more.

Now I am 23. My love with reading is still the same as our first met.

Well, my love for reading started when I was a sixth grader and got my first town library card. I was all into manga that time. Then I accidentally got a translated Sydney Sheldon's "Tell Me Your Dream" and I was so overwhelmed because for a 12 y.o reading murder in hundred pages, that's too heavy . . . But it was also oh so intriguing and I couldn't help but devoured the murder story in less than 3 days. Since then alongside manga, I would always read any novels with murder and mysteries. Ah, but of course I also like YA novels with adventurous story, but Adult Novels with murder is one of the top priority in my love for reading.

I have been reading since I was in early grade school. We traveled a lot when I was young due to my Dad's work (construction) and until I started high school, I never went to one school for the whole school term. Because of all the moving, books became my best friends. Wherever we were living at in the summer when I was a kid, the libraries would have contests in the summer to see who read the most books. I always entered those. Could not tell you what I read back then as I read anything I could get my hands on. Loved reading and still do!!

I started reading at a very young age right from when I was 9. Books have always fascinated me and especially Classics. In my school I also had a friend who too was interested in books and we used to steal books from our library because we couldn't issue some of the books but we wouldn't dump them or damage them but would return these after reading.
Also a time came when we couldn't issue some books due to so called adult content so we would ask one of our teachers to issue for us and believe me in 3 days time 5 of us would read a book of 400 - 500 pages and return it to our teacher.
So this is my story and why I started reading because it would transfer me to mysterious world and I had been told books are the greatest friends and they have surely been very friendly and loyal

I was around 3 or 4 when I started reading and haven't stopped since. I can't imagine not reading honestly. I spent more time in the library growing up then any other kid I knew  I'm not much of a tv watcher, I'd way rather read a good book. :) I go through phases of genres I guess. I'll read classics for a while, then switch over to paranormal, then read history or reread a slew of great childrens classics like narnia or little house. My favorite are historical fiction though I'll generally try about any genre. (except horror)
Why read? Well, it expands your mind, you absorb both proper spelling and grammar, and it opens up whole new worlds. T.V. tries to do what books do but can barely scratch the surface of the amount of detail and nuance that a book can open up in your mind. I've read to my own children since they were around three months old and they were many levels above their peers in spelling, grammar, writing etc. But I never had to force them to do anything, they read every night before bed and they read whatever they like and they enjoy it.

Very young. I was reading before my other classmates were, apparently. My mom was always working so she bought me a lot of books to keep me occupied. She also taught me how to use a dictionary at an early age because she wasn't always around to answer my questions about what words mean. I will always be grateful to my mother for encouraging me to read at an early age.

Hi,
I started reading books at the age of 9 in my primary years. The first book I read was the client by john Grisham. In truth I started to read because I was bored.
