I´m trying to find romancebooks where the hero/heroin has had a rough childhood and (either in the book or before) have been able to make something of them selves. Not only CEO´s but to build there own life.

Any ideas?

Try Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden and also Gheisa, a life by Mineko Iwasaki. They are both books written on the same story but the first one is more interesting. I liked it more. Also, you should read them both.

Try the Chesapeake Bay series by Nora Roberts. It's about four boys who were all adopted as troubled teens.

Also Sugar Daddy by Lisa Kleypas (don't be put off by the title).

I like Roxie Rivera's Russian Protector's series for this, Yuri's story in particular where both hero and heroin have had pretty awful backgrounds.

Contemporary

The Chesapeake Bay Sage (I have to second this recommendation, my favourite Nora Roberts series of all time)
- Sea Swept / Rising Tide / Inner Harbor / Chesapeake Blue

Wildest Hearts by Jayne Ann Krentz (Hero gave up his dream and takes on the responsibilities of his step-siblings when his father steals from his clients and disappears, leaving the family bankrupt and the hero to pick up the pieces.)

Match Me If You Can by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Historical

Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas (Derek is a self-made man and one of the sweetest hero's I've ever read about)

Where Dreams Begin by Lisa Kleypas

Persuasion by Jane Austen
