Ever since I've read Anne Rice's Trilogy (The Mayfair Witches), I've always been on the lookout for books of a similar vein. So far, I've found The Beauchamp Family series, but are there any others out there - with rich family history?

On the lighter side, Nora Roberts has a few series out featuring witches. Mostly in a contemporary setting tho. There's one about three Donovan cousins from her genre romance days, and a series called the Three Sisters' Island.

Kelley Armstrong has a series of 13 interlinked urban fantasy novels, and several characters are witches. Books 3 and 4 are about a witch character.

And maybe you'd be interested in Deborah Harkness' trilogy in progress? The first book is A Discovery of Witches.

Anne Bishop writes about witches, but its more fantasy... Check out the Tir Alainn series and the Blood Jewel series.

Links dead? Need re-up? PM me.

Strange is the night where black stars rise,
And strange moons circle through the skies,
But stranger still is Lost Carcosa.

Depends on what you classify as witches. I have read some of the Walker Paper series, which is about a Native American [female] shaman. Very interesting! The author is C.E. Murphy. First title is Urban Shaman. At present there are 9 books in the series.

+1 on Anne Biship's 'Black Jewels' series. I'm a HUGE fan of the Mayfair Witches (read that series at least 6x over the years), and while Dark Jewels is different, it does have a very similar feel in the detail of the family connections and mythology. Its right there at the top with Mayfair Witches as one of my epic faves that I return to again and again. A few I"ve read recently might thrill you. Now these are not the huge outrageous family saga opus' of witches like Anne Rice's books... noone writes those like she does. But they're rich and deep 'witch clans' with adult emotion and history happening. Hope you like some!

Black Jewels series by Anne Bishop (#1 is Daughter of the Blood, or there's an omnibus of the first 3 books called Black Jewels Trilogy)

Caster Chronicles series by Kami Garcia (#1 is Beautiful Creatures. YA series, but its rather well done, and there is a fabulously gothic southern witch clan involved. Made the first book into a so-so movie)

Gale Women series by Tanya Huff (#1 is The Enchantment Emporium. Series is on the lighter side, but has a wonderful family of pagan holy day celebrating/sex magic practicing witches)

Lyburn Legacy trilogy by Sarah Rees Brennan (#1 is Unspoken. YA series, but I found it fabulous and gothic and intriguing. Small town that has forever been watched over and served by an ancient family of witches who live in a castle manor overlooking the town. REALLY lovely series.

Cainesville series by Kelley Armstrong (#1 is Omens. Not so much a family, but a fabulous town of psychics and witches. Highly entertaining.)

The Edge series by Ilona Andrews (#1 is On the Edge. Sort of a 'pocket community' of witches in the louisiana bayou, rife with southern witch families and seriously intriguing townspeople.)

Fever series by Karen Marie Moning (#1 is DarkFever. Has naught to do with witches... this is dark mythology faerie lore, taking place in contemporary Dublin. But it has the same sort of 'epic' mythology feel as Mayfair series, does, I think. Anyway, I adore em both.

The Wicked Garden series by Lenora Henson (#1 is The Wicked Garden. Suuuuper emotionally evocative series about a family of witches. Really adult emotional content. Not a sex filled bodice ripper, just adult situations. Excellent.)

Golgotham series by Nancy A. Collins (#1 is Right Hand Magic. If you're into really elaborate world building around witches, this series is amazing. I looooove Golgotham, and would love to live there. Probably my favorite magical world setting, ever. Sexy as hell leading man... a scruffy and edgy hedgewitch who also happens to be the son of the witch queen.... Kicker? His name is Hexe. FUN series, amazing worldbuilding.)

Hope you find something you love! I'll definitely come back to see the other suggestions. Maybe I'll get lucky and discover something new, too!

thought of a few more....

Cahill Witch Chronicles by Jessica Spotswold (#1 is Born Wicked. Alternative History victoriana series about a trio of witch sisters. Killer 'witchhunt' puritanical society... really intriguing backstory about when the society was matriarchal based and ruled by the witches. Gorgeous and opulent setting.)

Goodnight Family series by Rosemary Clement-Moore (#1 is Texas Gothic. Lighter series about a family of modern day hedgewitches [totally my favorite kind of witchcraft] that revolves around a family farm in Texas. Fun and entertaining.)

Matthew Corbett series by Robert McCammon (#1 is Speaks the Nightbird. Whole series isn't 'witchy', its more historical fiction/thriller, but the first book is about a witch, and is soooo darned good. Really elaborate gothic storytelling. If you like Mayfair Witches, chances are good you'll like this series.)

And glad to hear the Beauchamp family series is good! I was intrigued by it. but then watched a few episodes of the show they made about it, and kinda lost interest. I'll definitely check out the books!

Question: What's it like to be the smartest person in the room?
Answer: It sucks. It means you're in the wrong room. ;)

The Cindy Eller series by Elizabeth Reeves.

A mix between romance and chick-lit. The heroine uses her magic to bake.

The first is How (Not) to Kiss a Toad

Well, I`ve looked a little on all the answers you`ve got and didn`t see any of the series that I`m thinking about that have witches being mentioned, but if they are somewhere written around here, then sorry:P
The Hollows series by Kim Harrison, the series is quite good and I`m in love with them. The main character is an earth witch and in the books you`ll also find demons and vampires and all kind of nasty little buggers.

Dante Valentine series by Lilith Saintcrow. Again the main character is a witch that battles with all kind of weird stuff. I enjoyed these books also. It is a little weird, the witches and the magic in it but I find it intriguing.

Saturn`s Daughter is another series by Jamie Quaid, interesting books with witches but there is no romance in these books. The others have in the end a little romance thrown in.

Horngate Witches by Diana Pharaoh Francis, although the main character isn`t quite a witch but the books are interesting and fun.

And Alex Craft by Kalayna Price. The main character is a witch and a very unusual one at that.

Hope I Helped ;)
