Hi everyone,

I am looking for a thriller/ mystery book that is really well written and has a good plot. I have been looking in goodreads reviews, but pretty much every book I have checked, has more bad reviews than good. Could you suggest me a few recent thriller books that aren't going to make want to bash my head against the wall?

My current favourite is Sturat Macbride - set in Aberdeen, similar to Rankin's inspector Rebus (of Edinburh) bt a bit darker.

Thanks. I just finished Patricia Cornwall's Postmortem. That was good too!

Are you a boy or a girl? I am sorry to ask because what appeals to girls might be different from what appeals to boys. I have however found that for chills any book by Ted Dekker will do. Try some out.

Have you read any books by Christopher Brookmyre? He's absolutely amazing.

The Mongo series by George C. Chesbro. Mongo is a dwarf PI and Criminology professor...and was at one time a circus "attraction". It is an older series, and the author is dead. About 14 books total.

J A Jance has several excellent series: A Seattle very wealthy detective, J P Beaumont, and also an Arizona sherrif, Joanna Brady.

John Sandford has the Prey series, which is excellent.

Michael Connelly has the Harry Borsh series

My favorite author is James Lee Burke. All of his Dave Robicheaux series are wonderful. They're hardboiled....

Try Elvis Cole series of books by Robert Crais, bokks by George Pelecanos (Nick Stefanos series) or Dennis Lehane - he wrote Shutter Island and I recommend the Kenzie & Gennaro series highly.

i don't know if they categorize this as a mystery/thriller for it's more psychological.
but shutter island is a great book book to read. i would recommend it
writer is denis lehane

and yes, Scorsese's movie was really good. the book is even better after you've watched the movie

Excellent suggestion. Lehane's books are utterly brilliant. His Kenzie & Gennaro series is a great place to start. Just finished Live By Night (a Godfather type story) which was a real page turner.
