Hiya, I'm looking for books with an anti-hero/who are usually considered the bad guys to be the bad guys as the main character.

Only ones I can think of is

The conquerer's shadow by Ari Marmell,
Sorcerer's path series(sometimes) by Brock Deskins,
The sort of dark mage by Nelson Chereta
into the abyss by j.langland,
shadowfall by James Clemens,
demonsouled series,

Thanks in advance :D

Lothaire by NOT ALLOWED? Book 10 of Immortals After Dark, much more fun if you'll read the whole series. Do you need the bad guys to be really bad? If not, try The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch and The Spirit Thief by Rachel Aaron.

The Tales of Bauchelain and Korbal Broach by Steven Erikson. Short novels focusing on side characters from his Malazan series. A deliciously evil duo of necromancers and their adventures. They have no redeeming qualities and should fit what you want.

The Acts of Caine series by Matthew Stover. The protagonist is definitely an anti-hero but mellowed with age. By book 3 (Caine Black Knife), you follow him when he was younger and oh boy... what an evil bastard he was : he doesn't balk at slaughtering anyone to get more fame.

Death's Head and its sequels by David Gunn. Hard to know who the bad guys really are, both sides are psychos. And our protagonist kills everything in his way.

Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer. YA Fantasy. The protagonist is supposed to be a young evil villain. Honestly, he isn't that bad in the morality department. Still an interesting read.

Imperium series by B.V. Larson. It has mutliple POVs and one of them is pretty bad, not an anti-hero per se, but the most coward and selfish there is. Even the titular villains are disgusted by his actions and often compare him to a rat/coackroach or parasite (anything goes as long as HE survives).

Damned and Cursed series by Glenn Bullion. Wow. My fave series now. I love how they can just kill off their enemies without remorse.

Would I have to read the malazan series to understand the side story? And I'm a bit skeptical about the imperium series because of the 3.3 rating on goodreads. Artemis fowl is a good recommendation tho, too bad I've already read it.

Read the 1st book so far, it's pretty good :)

I'm a bit skeptical about the shirtless man on the cover... :s

Nope, it's understandable without reading the malazan series although honestly if you haven't read it I'd advise you to do it : it's a great series and since you like anti-heroes it should be to your tastes, this world is all shades of grey, no black and white characters.

It's a decent SF series, not anything groundbreaking or with great writing but still ok. It's kinda similar in style to John Ringo if you've ever read him. The particular character I was talking about shows up in the 2d book iirc, so it might not be worthy starting this series just for it. Still I thought the coward character was very original and interesting and thought he was worth mentioning.

About the Damned and Cursed series, the best IMO for what you want is the 3rd book Jack Kursed. Great anti-hero, more ruthless and evil than most of his enemies.

Ruthless People by J.J. McAvoy. The 'hero' and 'heroine' are from crime families and basically don't care about anyone but each other.

Not sure if the thread's OP is still checking it, but I've recently read a few books that should fit exactly what's asked.

Bound to the Abyss (Bound to the Abyss #1) by James R. Vernon
The main character can summon demons. A decent coming-of-age story and a nice feeling of adventure.

The Necromancer's Nephew (The Songreaver's Tale #1) by Andrew Hunter
Great YA fantasy, one of my recent favorites. As the title implies the protagonist is a necromancer and is followed by ghouls, zombies, and all other sorts of undead.

Ward Against Death (Chronicles of a Reluctant Necromancer #1) by Melanie Card
Another necromancer's story, but this time with a little more focus on romance. Plenty of action, mystery and adventure.

Probably not as the OP was last active in 2014.

Still nice to keep the thread alive though as it's an interesting topic. The necromancy books you mentioned sound worth looking into for me. Even if the OP does not appreciate the recommendation I sure do. Haha!

Thank you. :)

Shattered Sea Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie
First Law Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie
Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie
I know I sound like an Abercrombie Acolyte but trust me, no one writes anti heroes like Joe Abercrombie, with the exception of the inimitable GRRM...
Pick up Best Served Cold for the best revenge story since the Count of Monte Cristo... Shattered Sea Trilogy is a bit of an easier read than the First Law Trilogy which is why I suggested that first. All of them have antiheroes and anti-heroines as leads. Cheers!
