Yes, yes, they're twins... but who else is hoping against hope that Jaime and Cersei get back together? They're just so PERFECT together! Also, there are worrying hints about Jaime and Brienne...

Have you read all 5 books?
They are perfect for each other...perhaps Cersei is a bit more evil than Jamie, although that is a fine line to draw. Brienne COULD be a saving grace for Jamie. But when the two of them are together...that keeps a few more people safe from their schemes!

Confession: I haven't read any! I know this makes me really unqualified to talk about it, but one of my friends told me about them and I became interested enough to go through the tumblr dedicated to them. All the quotes, analyses and fanfiction I've read about them convinces me they truly love each other. Plus, for ages they were the only meaningful romantic relationship in the series.

I know Cersei's done pretty bad things, but I love characters like her - she's flawed, but she does it all for her family. And since Jaime is loyal to a fault they feel perfect.

The thing is, I don't want Brienne to be Jaime's saving grace... I mean, he and Cersei have kids, he'd kill for her, he's never slept with anyone else! We'll see, I suppose. Which way do you want this to go down?

I never read the books but I do like the show. Jaime is one of my favorite characters and I absolutely love the actor that plays him. I don't like Cersei bc she is so much more evil than Jaime. I definitely don't want there to be anything more btw Brienne and Jaime. Nevertheless, I cannot condone the relationship btw Jamie and Cersei bc they are siblings which makes it disgusting. Game of Thrones is filled with tragedy so there won't be a happy ending for these characters.

True, Cersei is evil, but I picture her as the Scarlett O'Hara type - you might not do what they did, but you can understand it. And I know it's taboo because it's incestuous but a) this is fantasy; b) they're not the only ones and c) they just work so well together! I agree about the tragic ending. I mean, this is Martin we're talking about. But I won't mind an ending a la Wuthering Heights - as in, it's almost kind of happy seeing as how they die together/are together in death.

Out of interest, if you don't like Jaime/Cersei, why don't you want Jaime with Brienne? (Which I TOTALLY don't want either).

I know it is fantasy but I can't ignore that Cersei and Jaime are full blooded siblings. It really disgusts me.

I like Brienne but she doesn't fit with Jaime. She almost seems like a spectator to the events of the show. I think she was put in Jaime's path for him to realize that there is still honor and respectability in being a knight. Jaime has become jaded and cynical after serving in the King's guard for so long. Being in King's Landing he saw many people who stood for all these ideals but in fact were selfish and greedy liars. After meeting Brienne we see glimpses of the Jaime that he use to be before he became the reviled King Slayer. I think Jaime saved Brienne bc he saw in her what he use to be and respected her devotion to being a knight. When he finally returns after losing his hand, he ponders his legacy as he looks through the family history books. He realizes that he can still make a difference and so he asks Brienne to find the Stark girls.

Jaime was put in Brienne's path so she and we, the audience, got to see that Jaime was once an honorable knight who did his duty and was hated for it. He struggled to uphold his responsibility and it really hurt him. If everyone looks at you like a villain and expects you to act as one you will eventually become one. At least that is how I see it.

Excellent analysis! I agree with you. Jaime isn't bad, as such, he's more ruthless. But I have the same opinion of Cersei. The incest doesn't really bother me, but if it does you, then just remind yourself that they'll all probably die horribly in the end. Do you have anything against Jaime/Cersei apart from the whole twincest factor?

The Brienne-redeeming-Jaime thing doesn't work for me, because I agree she's too idealistic for him. He needs someone more like him, and he's already invested so much of himself in Cersei.

Aside from the incest part I don't have anything else against Cersei and Jaime. Cersei is a fantastic character bc she is so much more than a villain. She is someone who has learned to be ruthless bc that is the only way to survive in her world. She knows that she is at a great disadvantage bc she is a woman. And women are often victims and used as pawns. During the scene where King's Landing is under siege and all the women are hiding in the castle, you see Cersei lament about how difficult it is to be a woman. One of the great humanizing things about Cersei is her unconditional love and devotion for her children. Those moments are when you really see her vulnerable and much more than a generic evil character. The actress that plays her is phenomenal. Nevertheless, I have a feeling that Cersei and Jaime are heading toward a tragic ending bc they have done a lot of bad things and no one escapes that show without paying for their sins.

Time for me to jump back into the discussion. IMHO, Brienne is a great character....but, as a reader of the books, and not just a viewer of the HBO series [I do own Season 1]...she is NOT attractive in the least. Very large for a woman, and also on the ugly side. Not sure that she would be good "romance" material for Jamie. Rather more a "role model", as she is very ethical in her approach to service to her king/liege lord.
As she has played a rather large role in the books, perhaps there might yet be someone else planned for her?

I know she's described as unattractive... but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that, right? Plenty of objectively ugly people have gotten married. My main concern is that Martin may pair her with Jaime because they'd totally fulfil the good-girl/bad-boy thing, and she'd redeem him through the power of love, or whatever. And they might be paired to show readers how different she is in look as well as personality from gorgeous bitchy Cersei.
I hope there is someone else planned for her.
