I enjoy Anne Bishop's The Others series. You have animals that shift to look like humans, vampires, Elders and different human groups on another world called Namid. The base idea is great - what if when the Europeans invaded North American the locals were shifters and a LOT better at fighting back? The worldbuilding is incredible and looking at the world through the lead character's eyes is fun. It's 6 books long and the author is still writing. Thank goodness!

The Others series by Anne Bishop (no sex at all but so worth it)

And just because it's effing awesome and funny and other people should go through my pain of waiting for the next one (reverse harem paranormal, not shifters):
The Dark Side series by Kristy Cunning

I completely second Nalini Singh's "Psy-Changeling" Series (although please do not stop after the first one, the quality goes right up after !) - a world of shifters, humans and cold/anti-social humains ("psys"). Kind of love at first sight, although the back story on all 15 books will keep you on your feet, you feel the world around them shifting.
I see you read Mercury and Phoenix pack (those are on the top of my list) - Have you tried others from Suzanne Wright? She have a fantastic series with vampires ("Deep in your veins"). I am currently CAPTIVATED by her last series about demons ("Dark in You") book 4 went out last week and, no spoil, it's perfect!

I second the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews mentioned earlier. It's 10 books long (final book came out last week) with all sorts of animal shifters living with humans, vampires, wizards, etc. The main couple are Kate (human mercenary) and Curran (Beast Lord, lion shifter) and they are a lot of fun to read. There are also novellas about some of the secondary characters and a new trilogy has just started about the junior Big Bad (full time badass, part time jackass) which grabbed me and won't let go. There is some sex starting with book four, but it's not erotica. Just darn good writing.
