You have got to read Stephanie Laurens' Cynster Sisters books - they definitely fit your parameters.

The titles are: Viscount Beckinridge to the Rescue
The Pursuit of Eliza Cynster
The Capture of the Earl of Glencoe
And Then She Fell
The Taming of Ryder Cavanaugh

Any of the others of the Cynsters series would also include strong heroines, most of which are debutantes with minds of their own.

i love the OUTLANDERS series by DIANA GABALDON is historic with a romance twist, i heard is going to be a tv series in 2014 ,, thats how good this books are ...its begin with outlander i really like them
