The writing in Fifty Shades was horrible but I liked the story line better of the two. Although I wanted to wring Anastaisa's neck on several occasions.

The Crossfire Series was well written and darker but I couldn't find Gideon appealing. I can't put my finger on it but he was blah to me.

Eva was the better female part since she had more of a backbone but Christian intrigued me more. Maybe if Day was the one who wrote Fifty Shades, it could've turned out better.

Of the two, Fifty Shades is a slight notch above the Crossfire Series.

I first read Fifty shades and liked it but when i read the Crossfire series I find it more well written than Fifty, is true with fifty you feel something different than with crossfire. I reread crossfire and i think the second time i read it i like it more. There are some parts i dont like about it, but i can wait to read the third part.

I love and reread both twice. I'll give a slight edge to Sylvia Day because her writing is professional.

I'm listening to Fifty Shades on audio right now and if this was the only way I'd ever known the book I wouldn't have gotten past the first ten minutes. I'm not enjoying the narrator at all.

I think that the Crossfire series is much better than 50 Shades. I agree with what has already been said about 50, with the editing, repetition of words and phrases, and very sloppy writing. It really does astonish me that it is still where it is on the various best seller lists, in all it's formats.

For me Fifty Shades wins hands down. I lost count of how many times i re-read the series & played the audiobook over & over. Becca Battoe's narrative is 1 of the best among all audiobooks i heard so far.
Am wishing & hoping E.L. James will write another series from Christian's perspective! ....everyday! @.@"""

Was dying to watch the film till they announced the casting. *Faint!!!* WTF are they thinking!!!
Charlie Hunnam totally blew it for me. I can't be too happy with Jamie Dornan but hey at least he's easier on the eyes compares to Charlie Hunnam. :P
Arrrgh! .....if only they cast Matt Bomer as Christian!!!!! *sigh!*

EL James for her Fifty Shades of Grey of course! It was sweet and acceptable with not so tight chested problems. And for Crossfire series, hm.. I didn't finished that series, I quit for the 3rd book. The plot itself was twisted and dark, and no funny at all. no sweetness. Only hotness and craziness which is I hate a lot in romance novel. I prefer funny and hot and sweet in 50's series.
I don't know why 50's cannot be translated in my language and crossfire has been translated, I think the sexual scenes for the crossfire series so much beyond 50's! Crossfire was darker and tighter compare 50's sweet and funny and holly hotness!

I felt both of them are somewhat similar... el James has all big and huge scenes. It defines grand gesture. Where as Day romance scenes (some of them ) are boring and repetitive.

I prefer Sylvia Day's Crossfire series over EL James' 50 Shades. Although, I cant say I prefer one author over the other as I've only read 50 shades series from James, (though I've read most of Day's books)

Crossfire's plot was more touching. I may have shed a tear or two...
oh, who am I kidding? I shed a bucket of tears when Gideon fell asleep in the closet, or when he did what he did to 'that guy'.
There were lots of my-smile-is-so-wide-my-face-is-gonna-split and stop-my-heart-is already-in-tatters-on-the-floor-how-could-you-be-so-cruel moments. And my hand may have inched into a not-so-safe distance to the knife at some moments...

In comparison, I felt 50 shades was quite flat when it comes to the storyline. Simply say, no emotions other than feeling a bit hot with EL James' book. Crossfire was a much more enjoyable read. And the fact that Gideon Cross is waaaaay more considerate and adorable than Christian Grey is the cherry on top.

On a side note, Crossfire series is so far the only thing I liked from Day's works. I'm yet to find another book I like from her.

I found that the premise was similar. However, Sylvia Day's writing extraordinarily better than EL James. Don't get me wrong. I didn't hate 50 shades, I just found that it was repetitive and by the time I finished the series if I read the term "laters baby" one more time I might poke my eyes out! Both authors have done a good job at fleshing out the characters. Although Crossfire may be slightly darker, I found it slightly more believable.

I think Sylvia's writing is better ... probably due to experience and also, intensive and you are almost in the story when you read Day's books and sounds more believable ... E.L.James has started recently and has written only one series this far unlike Day who has written more and with more variations ... probably wrong to compare these two ...

Belesarius wrote:Day over James allday. The 50 shades is obvious fanfic. You really do have to turn off certain parts of your brain while reading it.

That is because it IS fanfic. A huge ass fanfiction with the characters of the Twilight series. I must be one of the only people who still has it but yeah. It got pulled offline and she just tweaked it with ''new'' characters. That's why the writing is so weird.
