I guess my reading of erotica novels started with Exit to Eden and moved on to 50 shades of gray...How about you??

I really love it. My job is quite stressful, so reading erotica is like letting go my stress. And I read almost any kind of erotica.

well, I love the ones that talk about menages, MM, BDSM not extreme, not the normal vanilla ones. Something that can just trigger my imagination. Vampires, shape-sifters, aliens, people that are not around the corner (I think so, but couldn't it be cool?).

Nope. I don't even understand how it qualifies as a genre. Within modern, civilly liberal countries it seems rather antiquated to read something naughty for naughty's sake. It also seems that 'erotica' is an inappropriately over-arching term for what is often a narrow definition of erotic.

I doubt anyone reads anything just for the sex scenes. What really keeps my interest and fuels my desire to keep reading are quality characters and a kick ass storyline if that's absent then any love scenes will fall flat because I'm not invested in the book in the first place. However a well written love scene in a book you're thoroughly enjoying anyway can really add to the experience imho.

Tiffany Reisz's books are amazing and a brilliant illustration of my point. Well worth reading. :)

I read a lot of contemporary erotica novels with one partner. Graphic sex scenes and lot's of it but not really bdsm etc.

People are talking about 50 Shades of Grey the way our ancestors once whispered about Lady Chatterley's Lover. Why? It can't ALL be about the gripping plot (if it has one). It's about enjoying brain porn, publicly and without shame. Of course anyone with integrity demands quality but why would anyone seek out books classified as erotica if not for sex?

I expect quality from fantasy fiction as well but there had better be some damned magic.

Lora Leigh's books are great. Try the Men of August, Bounded Hearts and Breed series.
