I posted this in another forum here but thought I might get quicker help if I posted it here as well.
Hi,
I wanted to move Calibre library to another computer. I backed up my library on an external hard drive. Than I installed Calibre on the new computer. I than went to import export and tried to import the library that I exported. I selected a location and when it finished I got an error. The folder is full of books but calibre isn't recognizing so I uninstalled it and deleted everything but even the welcome book is gone and now I have nothing. How do i get the books over. TIA

update: I changed the location of the folder and all the files got in Calibre but the covers were gone and I couldn't open the books.
Also, I am running windows 10 if that means anything. Thank you.

Sounds like 2 possible things: 1. The database has been corrupted (or something else of smaller impact) and/or 2. UAC is messing with your installation.

1. Check here: Calibre FAQ - The list of books in Calibre is blank!. Also, Scroll a little above this one and read the general article about moving Calibre libraries from one to another computer. Maybe there is some small helpful information you've missed before.

2. UAC (user account control) has an annoying tendency to mess with games, photo/video software, and other stuff like Calibre if it is installed within the C:/program file structure. As far as I know, that applies to Windows10 too. Create a folder on C:/ (or a different drive; needs to be an INTERNAL one!) called Calibre and direct your installation there.

Now try again and import your database. Conveniently, you did not touch the backup on your external drive yet.

Hope that helped.
