Oooo...I like that idea! It's really too bad that about the only time we get something like a "director's cut" in non-self-published ebooks is when an author re-releases a popular book with a new publisher and revises it extensively.
I recall Lynne Connolly (writing her paranormal series as L.M. Connolly now) saying that when she revised the Ecstasy in Red books this summer she went "lower on the sex, higher on the action" so presumably she had to add in the extra sex scenes originally because EC demanded them. In re-reading both versions of the series (second first then the originals), I did find the second versions much more gripping and memorable even though I had enjoyed the first versions as well when they were initially released. That could have been due to the author's abilities maturing over the six or so years since they were written but I think it was also because the narrative flowed better without all of the gratuitous sex.
I did find your descriptions of Celete, Black and Cullinan and their writing intriguing and I'll have to check them out. Thank you for the recommendations.
